"Who could be projected to be part of a contending team a few years down the line? I count six players: Receiver Ted Ginn Jr. and center Samson Satele should develop just as former GM Randy Mueller thought. Tackle Vernon Carey is in. So are running backs Ronnie Brown (assuming he's returns from knee injury) and Lorenzo Booker. Finally, there's kicker Jay Feeley.

Of those six, none are on the defense."

The way I look at it is, we build our offense around Ginn, Beck, Ronnie, and Booker. We need someone to build our defense around for the future, and that guy is Chris Long.

I would be happy with Jake, cause LT is a huge need... but our offense is younger than our D. We need to get younger on defense, and Chris is the perfect guy for us. Jason and Joey wont be here forever...

I agree to a point... we can probably get a good DE/OLB next year, Taylor and Porter etc., should be around for at least another year or so and those type of players usually can come in and contribute right away, so it wouldn't take years to contribute. Let's get Jake and finish the O by getting the strongest and most important building blocks for a foundation in Jake Long. It's a tough gamble to pin your hopes on finding a great LT in the later rounds. Strike when the iron is hot. JMO!

Why is it that we just HAVE to find a great LT when we already have a good one in Carey? Get a GOOD RT in later rounds and we're set there.

Carey did admirably last year, but I wouldn't feel comfortable with him there long term. It's not like our OL line was so great last year, right?:sidelol:. Have Carey on the right, Jake on the left, Satele and Smiley, who are real good at pulling and blocking on the move, which will be great for our running game...now that's a foundation you can build upon for now and in the future. Why settle? Look where that approach has gotten us over the years.

...I think anyone with any football sense would say it's definitely better to have a "great" LT rather than just a "good" one......That thinking has gotten us far, huh?

Agree that we should draft Chris Long and draft a OL with our second pick and he could play right tackle. If we draft Jake Long that would be good to but i don't think you can get a olb that would be in C.Long class with the second pick.

why not have one great tackle when you can have 2? I am not all comfortable with having chris long transition to linebacker yet. Pass rushing linebackers can be found in later rounds.

no automatic starters (ot) will be there with our second pick
i say go jake and groves. you can argue the same point about groves except he is more familiar to the olb spot then chris is.

can't get a OLB in the same class as chris long?

I could be wrong but remind me again how much experience chris has at OLB?

your telling a natural OLB who has been an OLB his entire life, won't keep up with chris long.

jake long for me.

Thats bs !!!!!!!!! This is a very deep OT class and they have as many as 8 that are able to start week 1. If we take Jake then were screwing ourselves. BP is going to take C Long and start to building his defense around him. JT will be traded after the 1st pick is made.

screwing ourselves by taking jake long, thats absurd thinking IMO.

chris long would be fine if he were going to be a DE. he's not. Are you really that comfy with him coming in and playing a new position when we could draft a natrual OLB with a later pick.

to me the first three picks are crucial, and need to be tipped a bit to the offensive side,
1. jake long
2. best available CB
2b. best availabe TE

We have a good left tackle in Carey. Get a OTin the 2 round. During pro day chris showed he had better fluid movements to play olb then the olb's that were there. The man can play either OLB or DE.

We need to fill as many holes in this draft as we can.

Joey Porter was a 3rd round pick and so was Jason Taylor.

Adalius Thomas was a 6th round pick, Mike Vrable was a 3rd round pick,

Rod Wright, Matt Roth, Randy Starks, Quentin Moses, Channing Crowder, Reggie Torbor, Jason Allen and Travis Daniels are all players on defense that I feel could be around for a few years.
