1) We have two 4th-round QBs on the roster already (Feeley and Rosenfels) and another QB (Frerotte) who has a good shot of beating both of them out. Why draft another 4th-round QB? And if you don't think Orton is a 4th-round QB, why was he drafted there?

2) You felt better about trading Surtain with Will Poole on board didn't you? How would you feel about trading Madison and his salary for a 2nd- or 3rd-rounder next year if Daniels can develop this year? Of course Poole was a late 1st/early 2nd-round talent who was drafted in the 4th, but that doesn't mean Daniels can't develop to the point that he makes Madison expendable.

If that happens we'll have two high-quality starting CBs who are making 4th-round salaries through their 4th or 5th seasons (or until they hire Drew Rosenhaus). With that going on you can spread a whole lot of cap money into other areas on the team rather than tying it all up in your cornerbacks.

Orton sucks. I thought everyone knew that...

At best we could get maybe a 6th for Madison cause of the contract. Most teams already feel his best days are behind him and at that price they would probably call the bluff and wait for the contract to be cut.

Either way Daniels makes him expendable.

im not sure if we would have any takers for madison for the cost of a 2 or 3. maybe a 4th. Im all for getting younger at CB. I woudnt mind if we used a high pick next year to draft a CB to team up with poole. it would be our next generation of solis 1-2 CB play

I believe it is similar to last year when we were fighting with Madison to restructure. We brought in Howard to take away Madison's leverage on the team. Well Now we want Howard to restructure(well its rumoured anyway, and after the way he played last year id believe it), we have added another corner to take away his leverage over the team.

I'd wait to see what Daniels can do first. Why pay a 1st or 2nd round salary when you can pay a 4th round salary for the same performance?

Good point -- I don't think Saban believes Howard is worth that contract.

i agree. good point

Madison is very tricky.

I could see us getting a 3rd from say a GB or some team like that. A team that is most likely playoff bound and has 1 or 2 seasons left to make a run.

Most likely we could easily get a 4th from him. But the contract and his age are definitely issue.

If we trade him now I believe his value is greater if we wait even just this year he probably won't have any trade value.
In the end, I think Madison gets cut and joins the other old guys in TB.

i dont think sams contract is trade/cut friendly for us.
I know it wasn't last year or this year, but I'm not sure about future years.

Don't think contract will be a huge factor in any trade considerations for Madison, may make him more valuable. With the huge money CB's are getting paid, Sam's 11.34 million salary over the next 3 years (3.42, 3.42, 4.5) is not very bad at all. The new team wouldn't be carrying any dead money from the bonuses we already paid SM. So even if it was only for the the next 2 years, a contending team needing a corner could make a trade for something like their third & 7th for our 5th & Madison. Don't think it will happen, but his contract definately wouldn't hurt any negotiations.

I think a team like Indy would give up more.

1) Orton stinks, overrated even when a ton of people think he stinks. Would have been a waste of a pick.

2) Daniels is more of a nickle or 3rd string CB. What does that mean? He's the kind of guy you can line up in the nickle and blitz him or send him back in coverage, he will not roam the field looking for the pick but rather stay with his man or in zone stay on his assignment rather than look for the int. I don't think he will ever make a huge name for himself because he is more of a team player, making sure the pass is incomplete rather than picking it off. Think Morlon Greenwood mentality and play at the CB position.
