I've been curious to know why did this monster go undrafted coming out of Penn State. Was he just not that good in college, was he even a starter? And how come no one else bother to pick him up from the CFL after winning DPoY twice. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad that we were to ones to steal him but how didnt no other "so called scouts" see this? Probably the same scouts who thought Tom Brady would be a scrub coming out of Michigan....

I beleive he has said at times that it took the humbling experience of being cut from camp and being out of football a year for it to finally hit em. He dedicated himself to playing again and I think at this point is when he became the wake we know.

He had 1 sack his senior year. If you want to scare away scouts who want to draft a pass rusher, thats how you do it

i thought he was a 6th round pick? maybe i'm wrong

I think he was signed by the Giants but I can't remember but I do remember that he was a DE when he came out, undersized guy for the position but had the athleticism. Giants obviously didn't think too highly of him cause I think he was part of the first cuts. Don't remember the whole story but I read it two years ago when we signed him. You might be able to google it.

he wasn't big frame wise enough to play 4-3 end for the giants and he wasn't athletic enough to play lb for a 4-3 team...point blank he got picked up by a team running a d that didn't fit his skill set...plus i believe he was severely undersize from a weight stand point when he came out...

in a lot of ways i think he got the same treatment as micah johnson by the giants...wrong team wrong system...difference being one was a pass rush specialist and the other a thumper micahs skillset didn't fit their 4-3 scheme either

NFL teams were frothing over the workouts of Canadian Football League pass-rush specialist Cameron Wake, and the Miami Dolphins had to fork over a nice sum to land him.

The Dolphins signed Wake to what's believed to be the richest CFL-to-NFL contract: four years worth as much as $4.9 million and nearly $1 million in guaranteed money.

Wake, who is 260 pounds and amassed 39 sacks over the past two seasons for the B.C. Lions, will play outside linebacker in the Dolphins' 3-4 scheme and could be a dangerous force opposite Joey Porter.

Wake, a two-time CFL defensive player of the year the past two seasons, received interest from 17 teams and received offers from eight, his agent, Paul Sheehy, said.

"Overall, the Dolphins were the best fit for his skill set," Sheehy said. "[Dolphins general manager] Jeff Ireland and [assistant director of player personnel] Brian Gaine did a great job of explaining what his role would be and came up with a great starting proposal out of the gate that got the deal done swiftly."

Wake narrowed his choices to four teams, including the Buffalo Bills, before choosing the Dolphins.

"Buffalo really put a great package together," Sheehy said. "They did a wonderful job recruiting him."

He was a hybrid linebacker-defensive end at Penn State. He went undrafted and signed with the New York Giants as a rookie free agent but didn't make it to training camp.

He joined the B.C. Lions in 2007 and became a full-time defensive end. He twice led the CFL with 16 sacks his first year and 23 sacks last season.

Wake also worked out for the Indianapolis Colts, Denver Broncos and Arizona Cardinals among several other clubs.

Hoops is right, he was about 236 lbs when he came out of Penn State.

It's not like he got no interest after his CFL years, we just happened to outbid the others I guess:

Seventeen NFL teams expressed interest in Wake. He wound up visiting eight, and his decision came down to the Dolphins and Indianapolis Colts.

Unless im mistaken, i believe he had never played football before he entered college. He was a basketball player and couldnt make the team, so got talked into trying out for the football team. From a mental standpoint, this guy was years behind everyone else, foes and teammates alike.

Took him a few years to catch up, and we are lucky for it.

He probably hadn't discovered the wonders of HGH yet.

He was a an LB coming out of college, but he did run like a 4.5-something and and has the highest vertical jump in combine history. It actually surprises me that he didn't get some more interest.
