Can someone enlighten me as to why the Dolphins stopped using the read option?

Last year Tannehill finished 5th in the league in QB rushing yards (317). He had four consecutive games last season with a run of 20 yards or longer (only Steve Young and Michael Vick are the only quarterbacks in 25 years to accomplish that).
He was the only quarterback in the NFL to pass for at least 4,000 yards and rush for at least 300.
Teams had to gameplan for Tannehill as a run threat.

He had some incredible runs for us in some pivotal moments last year:

58 yard run in the snow against Pittsburgh: http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-game-highlights/0ap2000000293961/Tannehill-58-yard-scramble

40 yard run against Green Bay: http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-game-highlights/0ap3000000409225/Tannehill-40-yard-run

30 yard run against Chicago: http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-game-highlights/0ap3000000413269/Tannehill-runs-for-30-on-fourth-down

This year he has 22 yards rushing. Why?

I don't get it either. The protect your QB from hits argument doesn't really make any sense when hes getting hit every third play anyways. I'd much rather him take the hit that he knows is coming than get blindsided.

I think our offense is hooked on phonics right now.

we are using the read option, I believe way too much out of the shotgun.

with us constantly playing from behind, a well as the worst blocking I may have ever seen in Miami... there has been no chance of a good running attack at all, plus we have drifted away from it throughout the game.

I truly think they used the option out of necessity. When you have a bad oline you need to throw some gimmicky plays out there. Remember the wildcat?

Great teams run the ball and throw the ball down peoples throats.

I was going to say the same thing. We've used it a number of times his year but perhaps Tannehill just chooses not to run.

That's the answer -we are still using it. Offense has not been in rhythm very often, so there is alot we are not seeing right now, especially in the run dept.

I have seen it used a few times where Miller was swallowed in the backfield and I think one Tannehill run that I recall, but I dont know.. it doesn't seem like they use it near as much as they did this year. The run game is so ineffective that its few and far between.

FinHeaven was right on the money for begging for Offensive Lineman (draft pick, La'El, Mathis) this offseason. Dolphins were pretty ****y/stupid rolling into season with Dallas Thomas, Douglas, Turner, and an injured Branden Albert. It has ruined the offense.
