I just do not understand how you allow Daunte to walk without at least allowing him and Trent to compete for the starting gig. What happened to having competition at all positions and allowing the best man to win?

Why not do that and then release whoever does not pan out?

The team traded a 2nd round pick for Daunte last year, so where is the harm in at least TRYING to see what you got before outright declaring Trent the starter and then releasing Culpepper.

Cam made up his mind from day one, once he got his Qb he did not want to take a chance that he was wrong and have him possibly be outplayed by the incumbant Qb. I agree though why not see what we invested in, I mean if Ginn gets hurt this year do we cut him next year of course not.

From what I've heard, Culpepper wasn't as interested in Cam's philosophy as he should have been. Cam decided that he wasn't part of where the team was going to go, so he tried to trade him. Simple business and team welfare.

5.5million reasons why.

Cam also realizes after seeing tons of game film, that Culpepper without Moss, on grass field, with a gimpy knee, in a new system, is rather unremarkable and has been for years.

What championship or super bowl has culpepper won?

He is done as a starter in this league. Defenses have become much more agile and complex and tossing the ball up for Randy Moss to run under doesnt cut it anymore.

probably for a combination of reasons. I don't think Cameron believes that Daunte would fit in his offense. Add to that the fact that if Daunte competed and got re-injured then the Phins would be on the hook for his salary. Normally this wouldnt be that much of a factor, but with the severity of Culpeppers injury, and the fact that he was cleared to play last season and then finding out he really wasnt ready, it is something that must be considered.

Why take that big a risk on a player you are pretty sure wont be able to run your offense anyway?

so by your logic what Superbowls, championship or playoff games has Green won?

Post of the year! Very well said!

That and we also heard the rumors last year that they wanted Culpepper to make quick reads and get rid of the ball faster and he would not change also. Green is the perfect fit knowing the offense and the perfect fit to tudor Beck. Daunte was not the perfect fit for either.

I told everyone here that the Daunte supporters would bash Green. Thanks for making me right again!

1) Cam Cameron and Terry Shea are more comfortable with Trent Green and feels he is the best fit for what they want to run.

2) To avoid any potential controversy that might arise if both played well or didn't play well. There would be a polorizing effect on the team as players would take sides on whom they prefer.

No one cares anymore. He is gone. Let's move on.

Yes, but that is something you do not 100% KNOW for sure until the guys get on the field during training camp and start throwing the ball. I mean as DolFans, we have seen our fair share of QB competitions and I think we were definitely due for THIS particular one because of what we invested (2nd round pick) vs tossing all of that out of the window by releasing Daunte.

That does not make sense to me at all.

Regarding him getting injured,...that happens all the time. This is football and I'm sure a settlement could have been negotiated had that happened.

At the very least, if you split the snaps in camp enough to have a competition, then you decrease the efficiency with which Cameron's offense is installed. If you allow Green to get all the snaps then you install the offense much quicker and you get the players on the same page better and quicker.

Remember, Cameron is the HC and the OC. He's spread way more thin than the average OC, so he can't be fooling around having a quarterback competition while he's installing his offense.

He needs a QB in camp who's an extension of him and his system and can have the effect of a "Junior OC" so to speak because of his knowledge of the offense, and Green is that QB, not Culpepper.

You can't just lay a blanket over things and say "all competition in camp is good," because in this case I think it wouldn't be.

I did not bash Green I was referring to his logic there is a differance but I guess you only read things the way you want to. If you are going to say that Daunte has never won anything then its legitimate to ask what has our new Qb ever won. i ahve said from the beginning I think that trading for a Qb that had awful year and is 37 years old is a bad idea. If Green had played well last year, my opinion would be differant. I can say that legitimately, see I have a reason to not like the decision, its not bias because I like Culpepper. If we had signed David carr I would have supported it. This is not about Daunte its about giving away another pick for a guy that the odds are that he is regressing.
