It seems that the Dolphins are a very national and international team and have many fans outside of the Florida area. What would you say are the reasons for that. There are a few other teams that also seem to be like that, but not too many. Thanks for any responses.

Two words: Don Shula.

Miami under The Don had an incredible run of successful seasons.

Winning makes you popular as the incresing number of "Lifelong" Patriot fans can attest. ;)

i dunno, but i am from HONDURAS, and i guess it is just because MIAMI is such a diverse AREA, and as for me i identified with them back in the late 80's....

I think for some people it has to do with Dan Marino. Man was that guy was fun to watch.

Shula - One of the all time greats...

Marino - An amazing, fun to watch record breaking HOF quarterback.

Undefeated season - It's been slighted recently, but still very much an achievement.

Miami - An international tourist destination.

Dolphins - Who doesn't like a dolphin?

for me it was dan. he was the first quarterback i ever saw play and i looked up to him and wanted to be just like him as a kid. once he left i was still a dolphin fan and always will be.

You said it perfectly. The only other reason would be the success but you sort of refered to that in the undefeated season.

Yeah, that's why one Canadian fan (me) got into it! His rookie season....phenomenal and fun to watch!

Yep, same here. Dan Marino had such an impact on this team and the NFL. I remember watching him when I was little and instead of being a Steelers fan like the rest of my family I became a Dolphin fan and I always will be. A little of topic, but man would it be sweet if the Dolphins win the opener. They had some fun with me when the Steelers beat Miami in 2004.

I enjoyed watching Dan and the Marks brothers. But the main reason was because my Dad bailed on the Cowboys in the 60's and became a Phin fan. So I was raised a fan and loved em ever since.
