Why does Sparano say there is no QB competition?

IMO... Sparano is suffering from the same illness as Wanny.. Both want to PROVE they were right when selecting their QB... regardless of what the fans, media, reality and/or win loss record says.. They need to prove they can evaluate talent... even if they're wrong..

Henne has got this game IMO. He'll go out there and prove he's got command of the offense and timing with the players. I fully expect Moore to get a look next week.

I agree with this thinking. I think the Dolphins are all in on Henne. This week. I do believe that if Henne struggles or Moore shines against backups again, that they will give Moore a chance with the first team in Week 1. It is Henne's job to lose, and I think this is the week he maintains that job, or starts to lose it.

Sparano keeps saying there is no competition at this point, but at the same time, they see what is going on in practice and games. They are giving Henne ever chance to take control of the job, and he has yet to do that. Moore is quietly impressing and I do think he will eventually get his shot.

There is not a QB controversy.......yet. I firmly believe Matt Moore will be the starter eventually. Say week 4 of pre-season

This is the first season with Sparano there has been no competition for the QB job. Tony is all about competition at every position. I suspect that he realizes he opened a can of worms when he benched Henne last season and is trying to contain a brewing QB controversy. Problem is that if Henne doesn't improve, Tony better pull the trigger on it quickly and for better or worse, ride out the season with Moore.

And point out that Moore played against backups? All offseason all we heard about was them looking for come competition for Henne, and we are in a critical preseason evaluation phase, and he announces there is no competition and Moore won't work with first teamers. That just seems odd to me. Is he going to wait till we are in the regular season to evaluate Moore against starting defenses? WTF is the logic going on here? I'm not even a Moore supporter, I think we all know what Henne can do, so why would it hurt to put Moore in for some 1st team reps in a preseason game? Could it be that if he is better than Henne, and only had the playbook for a few weeks, the coaches will really look stupid? IDK, it's strange that competition is all they have talked about and he creates an environment where it cannot occur...

What, you mean besides the fact that he's a moron?

Sparano will stick with Henne because he thinks he is the best of the qbs on this team. Henne will suck by mid season and Sparano will panic and insert Moore. He will play iffy and lose the game getting us into the playoffs. Then we draft an o-lineman in next years draft. Nothing changes.

In all honesty.. There hasn't been too many QBs walk into Davie that have actually contributed to anything in the past 10 years. Pennington has been about the only one to do anything for this franchise.

Maybe, but that is not the point. The point is that we have not had a QB competition in many many years.

The biggest reason there is no quarterback competition is because they screwed up the Orton trade. So now it's ride or die with Henne, as was pointed out in the PFT article. And as someone says, it can be a win-win in the end. Henne does well, there is a playoff push. If not, we draft a good quarterback in the 1st round next year.

And there is another possible win situation here too. If Sparano loses with betting all on Henne he gets canned and Ross attempts to land a big name coach like Bill Cowher (sp?), Jeff Fisher or John Gruden.
