Why not at lest try it? Ricky seems confident in my opinion is his own running ability. A few weeks ago he was literally bragging about how he was one of the few backs in the league who still run at people head on and try to knock them out....

Give him 25+ carries a game see what happens... I don't want to see Lex Hilliard taking 10-12 carries from him... It will make it so much easier on Henne 3'rd and long or 3'rd and anything if we have the option of play-action...

He is the only legitimate home run threat we have. Keep those old legs fresh. 20 carries a game should be ok. Time for Hillard to step up with 10 carries or so and show us why we kept him on the roster.

he isnt 27 anymore.. If he carries the ball more than 20 times a game, he'll most likely be on IR too. No doubt he will have an increased work load, but I dont want to see him carry the ball any more than 20 times. Lex can handle the rest and IMO Henne can drive this team to victories, if it were only for the WR catching the same balls.

ronnie can't handle 25-30 a game...why should ricky have to?

I think ricky is the type of back that can handle 25.. when he quit he wanted to go travel the world and !@#$ and live in a tent.. plus he was getting drug tested and at that time in his life I guess he couldn't deal with that??

Ricky is a horse, and he's not quite too old yet. Plus he's in great shape from all the Yoga and crap.. seriously... I guarantee 25 carries from Ricky will be more yardage than 17 from Ricky and 8 from Hilliard.

Anyone wanna put money on

The yardage of Ricky's next 25 carries
vs
The yardage of Hilliard's next 25 carries?

He can handle it.. I don't see why we have to be a 2 back style offense when ricky has already proven he can handle it..

When he quit he talked about seeing Earl Campbell and that he could barely walk. Then he said he didn't want to end up that way and when he was getting the ball 30 times a game he got worried he would end up all messed up like earl.

It's not like I'm saying to be like Wannstedt and give him 875 carries on the year.....

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure in 03 or 04' we ran Ricky 38 times in one game .. That is insane.......

Nobody is comparing Ricky to Hilliard. Of course Ricky would have more YPC but I would like to have Ricky healthy for the next eight or nine games and just as fresh in the last one as he will be tonight. Some mid range pass calls would help the offense out as well. The rest of the offense needs to step up. Ricky will do his share but you can't run him to the ground.

I agree that wannstedt literally ran him into the ground but that was just insane, I think Ricky holds one of the records (#2 or #3) for most rushing attempts in a season EVER......

I just wanna give him 25, maybe hilliard 4 if we need them.

You want to give Ricky 25 - 28 carries. Lets take 26.5 as the average and multiple that by length of a season. That is 424 carries. Look up any running back that has ever carried 400 times in a season and look what has happened to them. Yes I know, he will only be doing this for half the season but the dude is 32. Yes he is in great shape but ultimately, nobody beats mother nature.

I mean we did pay this guy millions and MILLIONS of dollars (even if he lost a lot on custody battles or whatever).

He is still set for money for life... Doing very well...

It's part of his job to run the ball a lot...

Considering that most of us would quit carrying after the second or third hit, you can say 20 carries a game is a lot :)

No running back in today's NFL carries the ball 100% of the time.

Ricky will get the lion's share of the carries tonight I'm sure, but we can also expect Lex to get 8-10 and Polite to see 3-4.

That said, the coaches will also go with the hot hand. If Lex comes out on fire and Ricky looks flat, I'd expect more carries for Hilliard in the second half.

Frankly though, I am alot more concerned about our defense than our running game.
