So far, i've been kinda disapointed about the draft:
1- reaching for pat white
2- draft 2 wrs in mid rounds even though you already have drafted one project WR in white (so we drafted 3 WRs basically...)
3- Ingram and casey get drafted a few picks before the fins, who drafted nalbone because they were looking for a TE

and the latest pick... Chris clemons... which is the subject of my title. Why draft clemons when you can have hamlin ? I find it really curious, because of the two former clemson teammates, batman (hamlin) seems like a better option than Robin (clemons) to me...

but all in all, i trust this front office, so i won't get mad and all until i see what those guys bring on the field :hi5:

A lot of people thought Cadillac Williams was better than Ronnie too.

some people actually had clemons higher than hamlin cuz of his physical ability...

I think that is the answer, they are looking for physically dominate guys. Im guessing they figure they can coach technique but they cant coach gentics

Yeah but we got Superman in Vontae Davis.

We want tacklers, not more athletic without the toughness. Hence, Davis over Butler.

Clemons had 310 total tackles in his career with 94 last year. Thats why. Hes a thumper! He will be blitzing the Qb and thumping Tom Brady. 4.4speed. Big Boy for the position. OUCH!

Some fans just don't understand the how and why...the Dolphins are rebuilding.

Just because we picked Nalbone a couple of picks after Ingram and Rice, it by no means implies we were looking at those two guys with the pick. Ever think that we actually preferred the kid from Monmouth? I cant imagine what your reactions would have been had they passed on the bigger name pass catchers for the relative unknown (Nalbone). Nobody knew who Donald Thomas was either.

instead of questionning my understanding of football, enlighten me on the reason why we wouldn't draft the better/bigger safety in hamlin and draft clemons who's his partner in crime

i'll tell you what, i haven't seen a lot of clemson games, and my guess is Ireland did (scouted merling last year, and scouted them again this year, so he saw 2 years of tape of the clemson defence) so he probably knows he's getting the better football player, but don't you feel he might've benefited from hamlin's play ? Clemons might be a special team ace and that's a key factor, but i have no clue what he brings to the table in that department

anyways, you guys always bring up the simple answer everyone reads on internet: "parcells likes DBs who can tackle" , much like people who say that player is a "parcells guy". i'm sorry but that's not enough for me

Drafting Davis, signing wilson, brings that nasty attitude to our defensive backfield. Smith is a physical corner but not a tackling machine.
We know we have smaller players in thomas, jones, allen.

But at safety, do we really have a ballhawk ? I'm talking a pure free safety with incredible instincts and ball skills ? we don't have that ! and that's why i question the Clemons over hamlin pick (although i don't think hamlin is that much of a ballhawk either)

the main answer i found to my own question is next year's promising FS class... and it makes a lot of sense, because i'm talking about an instinctive ballhawk... those qualities in a player are mostly the result of experience and natural ability. Coaching can't really fix or create one player like that. So if you want that type of guy, you're looking for natural gifted athlete with instincts who's proven his worth by producing a lot (sounds a lot like a 1st or 2nd rounder to me... )

i definitely think those guys were on our board and would've been considered for the pick... i'm not saying nalbone wouldn't have been the pick (and yeah, i probably would've been stunned ! )

but in another way, this pick isn't really surprising after all... i mean, people talked about the whole impact of a TE working the seams and being a pass catching threat, but parcells once again sticks to his offensive formula to have a block first catch later type of TE.

but like i always say at the draft... let's wait till the season is over before we judge this draft

i'd say right now that the real stunner is drafting 2½ Receivers (white, harnline (sp?) and turner)

here's why i think we might have taken clemens over hamlin:
http://www.nfl.com/combine/top-performers

look at the safeties and u can see that clemens killed the combine in almost every category over hamlin, 40, bench, vert jump, broad jump, etc. these might mean nothing but they do provide a bench mark of the physical limitation of the player. i mean he might have been overshadowed by the bigger play maker in hamlin but u know what they say... u can't coach genetics. although clemens is a little more raw he has more coach-ability than hamlin. hamlin can possibly get better but clemens has more tools to excel even further than what he's accomplished so far.

Please note i haven't seen a lot of clemson games, but im just looking at it from an overview...

In my list of overall prospects....Clemons was rated #90...and projected to go in the late 3rd round. He has fantastic speed. I think we got a new starting Safety. Hamlin was rated #104.

any safety depth is welcomed anyways... with only culver as a backup, we had to draft someone !
