i know im going to get bashed for this.. but we had or have however you wanna look at it one of the best 4-3 de's in the game..
and we have been trying to switch to a 3-4 for the past few years..
and this year we retooled the entire roster (witch i do agree with) and we are still trying to find players to fit into the scheme. I just sometimes wonder why go through all this when players like roth crowder vonnie and even zack when we had him seemed to fit way better in the 4-3. ok ok ok please everyone let the bashing begin!

Are you referring to Jason Taylor? He won DPOY as a 3-4 OLB/DE.

I guess Parcell prefers the 3-4, but they have been stressing of not forcing the system on to players. Rathers the players being able to fit the system. A 4-3 should not be ruled out, the only player that would worry me would be Porter, but it should not be ruled out.

Porter is a big part of it. He was miscast in last year's defensive fiasco, which amounted to us playing mostly a 4-3.

when he won DPOY he had his hand on the dirt a lot. We played a lot 4-3 that year.. look at most of his highlights still have him with a hand in the dirt coming around the corner in a 4-3. but i didnt say he is not a good olb he was actually very good in coverage and played well i am also just saying he was top 3 de's in a 4-3.

that year he also dropped back into coverage a TON.

I can remember two games, where he had ints for td's that changed the game........... out in the middle of the field.

Why the 3-4? Because our Vice President of Football Operations, read Bill Parcells, likes the 3-4. Our coach will do what Bill says, or he won't be our coach for long.

well we have been trying to change since saban was here and it seemed everyone was better suited for a 4-3 so always ended up playing mostly a 4-3..
but yea i do remember seeing him in coverage a bunch too.. im not saying he didnt play any olb and plus he was not even my main point he is all but gone.

We played a lot of 3-4. JT himself attributed Saban moving him around as one of the big reasons for his success.

Bill Parcells once said that he prefers the 3 - 4 over the 4 -3 because he gets one more athlete on the field (read linebacker) in the 3 - 4 over the 4 - 3.

When Rex Grossman got Pzzzwned by JT.:azmang::owned1:

3-4 or 4-3 it really doesn't matter. BP is changing out the players anyway. BP likes the 3-4, he's getting the players for the 3-4, and in the long run we will be better off.

I really dont think its about any player or players in particular. It just comes down to our staff thinking a 3-4 system is better in the long run so lets install it from day 1 and continue to get players until we have the proper players in place. Why run a 4-3 based on old players who won't be here like zach when he was here and jt now, if your going to change to a 3-4 anyhow you are just prolonging the process if you wait. The coaching staff is doing the right thing here because they know how they want the team to be ran and what kind of players they need to do what they want to do. Ultimately i think the final product on defense is an offseason or two away but there stepping toward rebuilding our D and they are doing it there way, which has proven to be a pretty successsful formula.

In a 4-3 you need a VERY good ILB, ie. Zach Thomas. We don't have a good one right now. And a 3-4 is better at stopping the run.
