This seems to be a staple of the Henning offense. We have a 3rd and short so we go to shotgun. We did that today at the end of the game on the Chad fumble that was reversed. It's ridiculous that we go to shotgun. It pretty much eliminates even the threat of running the ball. I understand that our run game wasn't doing well but I don't understand this obsession with the shotgun formation on short yardage downs.

I guess it's to give CP a little more time in case the blitz is coming (and today it usually was)...

No idea. Some bad playcalling out there today. We could do a FB dive to polite, a screen, handoff up the middle to Brown/Williams, but we do a pass?

Alot of reasons. It gives time vs. the blitz and QB's get better field reads and no it doesnt eliminate the threat of running the ball, it actually helps it. "Coughrickyfor51yardscough"

Bad play calling? I thought it was great....and wasnt that FB dive a 4th down conversion? I'm pretty sure thats the only time we gave Polite a running play. It worked last week too so i dont seey why your sad about that. And yeah the screens have been very effective also.

same reason they pass on first down more often than not .. switch it up every now and then .. its less predictable

also it's been said that our run blocking isn't as strong as it needs to be

What are you talking about? It was horrible play calling most of the day, and for sure that final play was a crap play.. Like the other guy said, running with the Full back or a halfback slam down the middle or even a screen at worst would have way better.. Then coming out on shotgun when we need 2 yards.

My bad i mis-read his post. I guess he was saying rather than having Chad execute a pass play on that situation we should have just ran the ball.

But as for the game as a whole....Dan Henning is the best OC we've had in miami since i can remember. I've only been a dolphin fan for roughly 12 years but i'd say thats a pretty fair amount of time.

I think we're seeing the shotgun more frequently because we've struggled in power formations on 3rd and short. The OL just cant consistently get a push. It also helps to keep teams off balance as they cant always predict our tendencies.

Really Penny has been clutch most of the season so I don't have a problem putting the game in his hands.

Sorry i had to read your quote one more time just to make sure i got this part right.

You ever heard the saying, hindsight is always 20/20?

Flea Flicker for Touchdown.

Direct Snap to Brown hands to Ricky for 51 yards.

New Wildcat wrinkle- brown option got us another TD from 16 yards out.

Not to mention the fact that our receiving corps consists of practice squad players and Ted Ginn.

I think the only thing "horrible" is beligerant fans like you.

Well youve been a fan longer then me then , i started being a fan in late 90's. Around 2000 almost.. So that makes me be a fan for what? 9 years.. I was to young before then to have much interestin to watch games week in and week out, but i did watch Dolphins game before the late 90s but not consistently.

Our OL does not have the means to impose thier will on the other team.

Your right, we cant dictate a running system the way other teams can. But then again, those other teams are very very few and far in between. Frankly, i'm enjoying seeing teams come out with huge fronts. It creates immediate holes in the pass defense. If we had Henne or Mccown or Beck taking snaps that would be misery for us, but Pennington has the brains and quickness to exploit those huge fronts and take advantage of the secondary. Teams have decided that they would rather have Penny beat us than let Ronnie and Ricky control the game.

I was referring to 3rd and 2 where Penny had that fumble overturned. And it was bad playcalling throughout the game imo. There were some brightspots with the playcalling, but alot of bad calls as well. Flea Flicker = genius, shotgun on 3rd and 2 = incredibly stupid.

the shotgun on 3rd and 2 is a good call it moves chad away from the blitz. In short yardage situation run is the first read. The shotgun gives chad a chane to make the ead and throw the ball where the defender blitz came from. In fact in design its near geniussss.
