Why go with a defensive minded coach as HC

Nobdoy knows the fins defense better than Mr. Capers. Let the guy stay at defensive coordinator/assistant coach and bring in an offensive minded guy to be HC. Capers has this aging dline, deep ball-prone secondary to a # 3 ranking i believe. He knows how to utilize the front 7 and especially knows how to move JT around, if only he didnt blitz ZT as much.. but I think he should stay. No reason to bring in a great defensive mind from the bears or the ravens or whoever who might come in here and try to change up our already great D, just doesnt make sense. We need to change up our offense.

last year should serve as notice to the rest of the nfl...always seek out the offensive genius to be your coach because they are a rarity in the nfl...good defensive coordinators can be found rather easily...ex. last year the rams selected linehan over rivera...not a bad decision if you ask me...especially when u look at the year stephen jackson had...

The issue is that Dom Capers very likely won't want to stay behind working for a man who has the job he thinks should be his. The new guy very well might not want Saban's leftover DC when he can bring his own guy in, too. There are examples where coordinators have stayed, but it's certainly not something that happens often.

Why is everyone putting so much into this "offensive/defensive" minded BS? It doesnt matter people.

A head coach has to be great leader/manager over anything else. You can have a great X's and O's guy but if he is unable to manage to rest of the coaches and players (see Scott Linehan, Mularky, Capers, Cameron, Wannstedt, etc...) the team will have no success.

This is why so many coordinators get head coaching positions and only some stick. Its a totally different job.

Capers has nowhere else to go.His name isnt one that any team in need of coaches are going after. So I think he stays and we bring in some offensive minded guy.

I wouldn't count Dom out of the mix. We don't even know how many jobs will be open yet because I know of at least two coaches who may leave or be fired even though they have a team in the playoffs (Parcells and Coughlin).

Even if he doesn't get a head coaching job, he can do what Heimerdinger did and demand his release. Wayne will give it to him easier than the Jets gave it to their former OC, too. It's very possible Dom could just take the year off, particularly if he still has that fat Houston money still rolling in next year.

I would rather see them get an offensive minded head coach too. But I wouldn't have a problem with another defensive minded head coach as long as that person brought in a good offensive coordinator. Saban did okay his first year here because he had Scott Linehan here to make the offense go. Look at what Chambers did that year with Frerotte at quarterback. Saban's mistake was bringing in Mularkey to replace Linehan.

Because he might be the best coach availible?

And for the fact that a coaches specialty alot of time doesnt correlate into production in that area?

had linehan stayed, our record would have been much better. c'mon, we lost to buffalo twice! a pop warner coach could have done better! why is malarkey still in this state?

Because the most qualified guys for the job happen to be D coordinators. Rivera and Rex Ryan may be the best candidates to be the strong leaders of our team that we need. It's not like if we bring in a Defensive guy, that he's gonna be the one running the O. And I think any of the guys we're talking about bringing in will not be dumb enough to neglect the offense any longer.

very true... But an offensive minded HC would have more say as to which players we draft, bring in thru FA, he would prolly be better at evaluating offenisve talent rather than a defensive minded coach and for a change we should get n offensive minded coach.. Look at fins coaching history, most are defensive guys, and with that we had outstanding Defenses, but our offenses lacked.
Some1 said something about bringin in Chan Gailey. That would be an intriguing idea. With him at OC, we had Fiedler playing good football, Ricky running wild and we wouldve been insane that year until Fielder got injured, Ray Lucas came in and the rest is history. He got the best out of his players.
Fiedlers Qb rating in 2002 was 85! I believe Harrington/Lemon has more talent than Fiedler and with that I believe one of those players could have an 85+ rating for the Fins next year with a run-balanced offense.

leave Capers as DC.. We need an offensive coach for sure... fire Mularky.....

Why? Because you really want him to stay?

It's exactly what happened with Bates this year. He interviewed for the vacant Packers job and got passed over. He was upset enough that he quit.

The guy is not leaving. Read his quotes, he wants to stay. In fact, the fins job is making him look good so that in a couple more years, teams might look at him for a HC again, but its too soon now. He didnt fair well with the Texans and needs to take a step down.
