Unless I missed something, he's still unsigned, why is it taking so long?

Last update I read was that he is apparently sulking and Harbaugh is doing damage control.

With us pulling out of the market it looks like the 49ers might even try to offer him an even worse deal since there really aren't any other suitors. He's still expected to re-sign with them.

He is in negotiations with San Fransisco last I read. It seems that we decided to sign Gerard instead of him..

I think he was waiting on Manning. Now that Manning is going to Denver, he'll go back to San Francisco to compete for a SB although he still had his feelings hurt.

yep.

all signs and sources say after he puts his hanky down and the tears stop, he will sign with the 9ers.

but, can you really blame him? superbowl ready team. sold out stadiums. exellent front office and owner, pro bowl players all over the place, etc........

but....., we have jeff ireland, so just maybe..........

Come on man we signed Garrard arent all of your expectations satisfied?

How exactly did we pull out of the race for Alex Smith, Garrad?

I don't see how us signing to Garrad to a non-guaranteed contract removes us from wanting to sign Alex Smith.

we could still sign smith. gerrad's contract is not so great that we couldn't drop him. I'm not certain that harbaugh is going to smooth it over with alex.

We don't want Smith- one good season out of how many? No, we are just doing him a favor by feigning interest so the niners have to pony up a little extra for hurting his feelings. I believe in contract talk, that's called "giving him a Sparano." Just a way to stick it to Harbaugh for the good times of last year.
