Looking at the chaos from the cap and the uncertainty regarding the CBA, nobody here can know for sure what our cap number will look like. Im sure there is similar anxiety in Davie, but they know what they must do. I think we are looking at some serious cuts tomorrow including Frerotte, Booker, Zgonina, David Bowens, Seau, and Spragan. Schulters might be gone too. Who knows anymore. All I know is that they need a big day to get under whatever cap number we need to be at. All this pretty much points to one thing: a possible FA signing of note, and dirt cheap veterans but above all, a scenario where we need at least 10 rookies on this team. I dont care what our cap status is after the cuts, we wont be that far under especially if we expect to go after Brees. As is we only have 7 picks, 3 of which are probably camp fodder.

This, compounded with an extremely deep class of DBs and LTs, will make us trade down from the 16 spot for any combination of day 1 and early day 2 picks. We can drop down 10 spots and still get any one of the DBs proposed by the fans on this board. Huff is gone regardless. It makes more sense to hoard picks and get Cromartie, Youboty, Whitner, whoever and then address our depth issue with a lot of rookies who are a lot cheaper than veteran FAs.

you wouldn't hear me cry if this happened. Bottom line is we have lots of holes to fill and this appears to be a deep draft class at some of our need positions.

Given that Saban has a really good eye for talent this is not a bad idea. Hoard some picks and see what pans out.

I definitely would trade the pick if someone incredible didnt slip. We could send it to NE so they could draft LenDale, or whatever scenario you could dream up. Give saban an extra 2nd or 3-4 picks in the 3-4th rounds and he will do us well. He can pick up guys like Jason Allen who has an injury concern (so did Crowder) or an athletic big LT, whatever. I'd be happier with more picks.

Don't you think most teams are in the same boat, though? Just about everyone is making serious cuts and not going to have a lot of money for FA's. A lot of teams are going to want cheap talent, which means draft picks. In order to trade down, you must have a buyer. I'm not sure we will get a buyer for value.

That I do agree with. It's a problem because we probably wont get 80 cents on the dollar for our pick in terms of that draft value chart. Regardless we need to find a way to get more picks. Not every team is as desperate as we are. Most teams will have to cut players they'd like to keep but I dont see more than a handful of teams with more cap problems than us.

If the market is so terrible for trading down and so many teams will be desperate to do it, maybe that means now is the time for Miami to trade up so they can end up with a real playmaker for not much more than the price to stand pat.

Good point...we're not the only team likely to make some significant cuts...which means ALOT of FAs floating around out there looking for jobs...and, supply-demand would suggest those FAs will come alot cheaper than what they were getting paid originally. So, bottom line is, we could very well re-sign our cuts, or other's cuts, to replenish our ranks. Too early to tell though...way too many variables.

Thats an interesting idea. Its true. If we had a shot to land D'Brick (im not sold on Cutler or Young) and it wouldnt cost us too much I wouldnt mind going for it. Problem would be finding a way to pay for another huge contract from the 4 or 5th pick in the draft and fill in our other holes. Maybe if we had more cap space but I dont see a way to afford a top 10 pick salary wise.

I say we trade down too, but I want us to draft a QB & OL with the first 2 picks, trade the 4th-rounder for Patrick Ramsey, then restock the team with the rest of the picks.

Ramsey is cheap right now, and we'd be well served to pick up a cheap, young veteran with potential to fight with a 2nd-tier rookie QB going into camp protected by a good rookie OT.

The OFFENSE only needs a few pieces to really come together, and that would make the DEFENSE better as they won't have to be on the field so much.

Think about this: The winner of Ramsey vs. Croyle (strongest arm in the draft), Ronnie Brown, Randy McMichael, Chris Chambers and a more talented, more effective O-Line.

We restock the O-Line & DEFENSE with those extra picks and a couple decent Free Agents, and we could win 12 games.

I really dont like the thought of the Patriots getting White. He would be the perfect runner for their system. I never like improving a team in our division. I know what youre getting at but I dont want the Patriots ever getting any good players and trust me, White is a special kid.

Well yeah haha. I dont want LenDale anywhere near the Patriots and I dont suggest we should trade down just to help them out. Just an example of how a scenario where a team might find it worth trading up to our position and us stealing away their picks. Not likely to happen with Belichick though.

If a new CBA isn't agreed to we're gonna have to position ourselves to fill needs instead of the BPA. Trading down with whoever at the end of the first round, maybe even Indy so they can get their RB, & picking up a 2nd rounder wouldn't be all bad. We'd be in position for LT Winston or McNeill, CB Cromartie or Youboty in the first then QB Croyle, LT Scott, or CB Allen in the middle of the second & QB Whitehurst at the end of the second.
