I've been a Dolphins fan since I was conceived in my mother's womb. I have been in aqua and orange since I was but a young lad. I remember the latter years of Shula, and the good, but flawed Dolphins teams of the early-mid 90's. I remember his retirement, and our acquisition of Jimmy Johnson, and being young and naive enough to think this big name coach could fill his shoes. Jimmy was a good coach, and drafted some great stars we still have today, but was the cause of the decline of St. Marino.
Then came Wannstedt, and then came my near loss of faith in the Fins. Jay Fiedler's constant mediocrity, our team's constant underachievement, it was a depressing sight to see. Keep in mind, I haven't been around long enough to have ever seen this team while it was ever truly a winner. A Great team.
Enter Nick Saban. In a single year, he has completely changed the attitude of our players, and the perception of the nation about our prized Dolphins. Furthermore, this offseason as it stands are even further steps in the right direction. With the additions of Culpepper, Shelton, et. all (and don't forget Capers and Mularkey), Saban has built a team that is suddenly running very low on glaring weaknesses. Yes, our defense isn't a mirror of the pro-bowl roster, but whose is? I am very enthusiastic about our team causing some real damage next year, and I'm hoping y'all are too. So, the next time you post something about how we need so many improvements, at so many positions... think about the late Wannstedt years, and think about how far we've come.
