I hate to say this, but the Jets are going to lose their first game of the 2008 season.

I'm a Jets fan, have always been one. But here's why the Jets will lose to you guys:

1. They absolutely MUST win this game. With NE and San Diego looming, there will be huge pressure on them to win against the 1-15 Fins lest they start the season 0-3.

2. Their leader is a first-ballot HoF QB with nothing left to prove. He won't have enough heart in this game as the Fins.

3. The weather will play heavily in Miami's favor.

4. The Fin's rushing attack will dominate vs. the Jets' rush, opening up the field to Pennington's play action.

5. Talent-wise the Jets have the better team. But this is a new season, everyone is 0 and 0, the Fins will be on national stage with a huge chip on their shoulder and red hot to come off to a good start after being a 1-15 laughing stock. They will be pumped and ready to hit hard. I'm not saying the Jets won't be, but my bets are on the Fins to push themselves harder because they will want this game more.

6. These are the Jets. They ALWAYS find a way to lose the big ones.

7. Finally, you guys have Chad at the helm, and he will exploit every weakness he can find. I hate to say it, but he is the one QB I do not want to have to face, ever. He's smart, confident, accurate, and he knows exactly where the Jets are weak. He doesn't often make mistakes and he will use every strength the Fins have and bring the max out of them. He will want to beat the Jets badly.

The good news? I can bet on the Fins to win and ease the pain. Because this one is going to hurt.

Prediction: Fins win 31-28.

You are, without a doubt, the smartest Jets fan ever on this board.

nice post and assesment.

I too think the Phins will win and agree with most of your reasons. I truly hope Pennington can provide our team with some insight of that Jets Offense so we can exploit it.

I agree with everything except the point about Brett not having heart or something to prove.

I think the guy always has heart and he wants to prove there was no mistake in returning among other things.

While football is a team sport, to guys like Brett, winning and being the best is like heroin.

After everything that happened these past few months, if Brett doesn't have any heart and feels that there's nothing left to prove, then there is something horribly wrong.
Now, having said that, I have stated since the second we signed Pennington that I knew that Miami was going to win opening day. This is going to be Thanksgiving 2006 all over again.

I agree and disagree with one thing the poster said . the jets have more talent. I disagree with that statement. you should have said that the jets have more PROVEN talent.

I'm not going to predict who will win this game, but we have a real good shot. If it turns out to be a hot and humid scorcher of a day down here it's going to be tough for the Jets. Also remember that the Jets practice against Chad and know his tendencies, could work against us also. And yes you are the smartest Jet fan on this board :D

I think its going to be a very close game. I really don't know who is gonna win. I want to say our Dolphins so bad...but I dont want to become over confident. I have no idea what to expect from Favre in Week 1. But again...I think this is gonna be a close game.

Brett Favre has never had a serious football injury. Wouldn't it be something if he breaks his leg in the first game and is out for the season? I'm not wishing ill upon him, just saying...

In Brett's case, I think its more like Vicodin.

Buy the hook and get that spread up to 3.5. I don't see any better play for Week 1. Dolphins roll baby!!

Great post, I could see the game going that way. I could also see it being a loss for the Fins. I think the odds are against the Jets though, not because I think the Dolphins are better, but division games are different then any other. We also have more then Chad with a chip on their shoulder. Miami wasn't a 1-15 team last year, I don't care what the standings say, we were better then that. But sometimes things just start to go against you and you just can't do anything about it.

Sorta the oposite of what the Giants experienced last year where everything fell just right for them. Plus you can add the fact that the Dolphins haven't beaten the Jets in a while and the fact that this new coaching staff wants to recaptrue that winning attitude, what better motivation for a team then to face a team that's beaten you the last couple of years and your at home. There's just a lot more reason for the Dolphins to want this game then the Jets wanting to prove Brett was the right decision.

Finally, the coaching, I think this is where Miami's biggest improvements have come. In the coaching changes we've made, I see a group of guy's that know how to motivate, know how to take avg talent and get better then avg results. Many times teams win without talent because they have confidence. Confidence leads to wins, wins lead to more confidence. I think it's why a 3-13 team became 10-6 in just one off season like the 05-06 Jets. It's a common occurance in the NFL to see teams make dramtic imporvements in just oine off season.

To be honest beyond the Jets game I don't know what we'll see out of the Dolphins. I could see the Pats struggle early and maybe head into the Dolphins game without a win..believe it or not, but then play lights out against us. It's just too hard to predict right now.

Yeah, but maybe all Brett wanted to prove is that he was still wanted and respected by someone. I'm not saying he's lost anything, but you could make an argument Brett's ego was as big a factor in coming back if not bigger then his desire to play...even for Greenbay.

.

NYJUNC feels the EXACT opposite. He seems to think we wont be able to do a thing against your rush D. I also think we will tear the rush D up.

its going to come down to the miami run defense. if miami can stuff the jets at the line and force favre to try and air it out, they will win going away. I don't think favre will have the timing he needs with his new recievers to be real effective. if the d-line can stop the run, the secondary, which has turned out to be a strength for miami, will be able to sit on some routes and maybe pick off a pass or two.
