Not that I think he is a bad coach...on the contrary I think he will lead this team to successes that we haven't seen in quite some time. But it seems that almost everyone on this site is head over heels in love with this guy when he really hasn't done much for this team yet. I realize we won 6 straight games last season which is awesome but we still missed the playoffs. Doesn't anybody else think the jury should still be out until we experience some playoff success, let alone make them as a wildcard?

Every time I read a post there is someone calling him our saviour or the best coach since Shula was in his hay-day. I honestly hope that he turns into this man people already think he is but honestly people we are not there yet (hopefully we will be after this season though). :)

Calling him the best coach since Shula was in his hey-day isn't exactly going out on a limb.

no, its more like going out on a tree trunk, or maybe a truck. its a pretty solid fact at this point.

For me it is because of his approach to the job. He has shown a steadiness not seen in a long while. He is tough, sticks to his beliefs yet is flexible where it is warranted. It isnt the 6 wins at the end last year, it was the attitudes of the players that was clearly evident last year and to date. You can see they expect to win, they dont accept losing, they dont quit, play with emotion and have clearly bought in. I believe that he has shown a penchent for finding players, is not afraid to make the big move to fix a weak area. It is his style, his intellligence, his fiery attitude.

Well I think the guy is doing real good considering how much Wannstedt screwed this team up.

cmon...have you been living in a monastery in Nepal or what.... If YOU can't see what has been accomplished there is little chance anything "I" say will make any difference...

I WILL say this... as "I" have witnessed BOTH events, I can confidently say that similarities are many and I could not be more pleased. Have some kool aid with us Matt, we are in safe hands.

Saban is a great coach, but it does get annoying /borderline disgusting, to watch grown men swoon over him. He is definetly a coach who can get the job done and take us where we want to go and I believe he will. I like Saban and he was the best coach out there and we got him. But it's premature to compare him to some of the coaching legends just yet. He's easily the best coach we've had since Shula, but he still has a lot to prove - and I'm sure he feels the same way.

Short answer:

Because......

But seriously, you can just see the confidence Nick has in his plan and he doesn't deviate from it or mess around with how he wants things done. He sure as hell doesn't panic or overreact to things that come up. You'll never see him trade a third round pick for a Lamar Gordon type talent or a second round pick for a QB with AJ Feeley like skills. Then you've got the Bellichick connection on top of that, so it seems to all be good.

So maybe that's where this love is coming from?

I'll stand by Saban any day, he's put us on the right path, brought in the right players, and when he wins a SB for us in a year or so, you'll be singing a different tune. You would rather have Wannstedt? Want Spielman back too?

Like I said, I hope he turns out to be as good as everyone seems to think he is....I just think we should reserve judgment until we at least make the playoffs. As a rookie head coach he did an excellent job (any rookie HC with a winning record has done pretty well).

But comparing him to Shula in his prime is absolutely rididulous. Shula led this team to 2 SB victories and the only perfect season in NFL history. Saban to this point has led us to one winning season where we didn't even make the playoffs. Granted, he's only been HC for 1 season but that is the point here...how can you say he is great after 1 year?

Everyone is just extremely relieved to be rid of Wannstedt and have someone that at least appears to know what the heck they are doing.

He saved my life. Yep. Battled a grizzly bear and a polar bear with his bare hands.

I think people are getting the wrong idea from my post here.

I am delighted to have Saban as our coach. As one previous poster said, he was the best man for the job and we got him. He is an upgrade over JJ and especially Wanstache.

I just don't think it is fair to cast Saban as this great, savior and mastermind so early in his career.

We are on the right path and I like the attitude that he has and the attitudes that our players now have. Again, I just think it is way too early for everyone to be declaring him as good as Shula in his prime.

i think everyone was just so over wannstedt and co and should anyone have come in and had a decent season like saban did last year im sure they would be getting nothing but the highest praises atleast for now anyway. will be interesting to see how we go this year with sabans roster moves
