Why isnt Cam Allowing Open QB competition..?

Between Green, Beck, and Lemon?

He said there will be open qb competition, but Trent Green comes in and says he is the starter, guaranteeing it. He said He will start from day 1.

But if Beck outperfoms him, or more reasonably Lemon outperforms him( which could entirely happen), what then. Does Cameron Bench a man he is paying more then a rookie and a backup? Lemon and Beck deserve a fair chance.

Would you rather have someone who has started for multiple season and knows the system tutor Beck, or someone who's started 1 NFL game or even that guy we had w/the bum knee who had never played in that type of system tutor Beck?

I dont think Lemon has a chance to beat out Green outright mainly because of experience. I would much rather have a vet who has gone to multiple Pro Bowls and led the number 1 scoring offense for 2 years and the number 1 total offense for another 2 years than Lemon. Also, he cant tutor Beck from the sidelines

Green is the #1 guy. Even if there was an "open" competition neither Lemon nor Beck would beat out Green. He is our best option at this point to run the show. HE will be fine and we will win 9 - 11 games

I don't think that if Green sucks, Cam will keep him as a starter for too long. He'd rather give Beck one or two seasons to get used to the NFL (like the Bengals did with Carson Palmer). However, in some cases the starter gets injured or does not perform well and a change is made sooner rather than later (Cardinals with Matt Leinart or Titans with Vince Young). :cooldude:

Did he say that Green was the starter or did we just assume it...if I recall the interviews by Green, he said there were no guarantees as to who will start ??

Lets get the facts straight before we jump on Cam...I'm sure that Beck and/or Lemon could possibly outperform Green, albeit unlikely. However, I'd still feel better with Green as the starter over the others at this point...the next 7 weeks will tell I guess...

Green should start the season unless there is a serious issue with him, if he goes down or he looks like he doesn't have it any more. I wouldn't be suprised if the team began looking for another veteran option at QB. I doubt Cam will settle for Lemon or rushing Beck if he doesn't have to unless he plans on just tossing in the towel for this season.

I believe the underlying concept behind the original question was about the competition being legitimately open. The one reason that comes to mind for the Phins not starting Green would be if he was out played in that very competition.

I don't believe that will happen because it won't be a legit open competition as Cam has said it would be in the past.

If John Beck's father was the head coach, not even he would start John over Trent. Trent Green would have throw 20 preseason INT's before I'd consider letting Beck play.

Everybody and their moma know that Trent was promised the starting job. There was no neerd for cam to lie. He will sink or swim with trent.
