Why Jay Ajayi slipped in the draft

ok so he's not an every down back.... few guys are. nothing to see here, we have a quality backfield with the addition of this guy -- 4 good backs on the roster

I disagree with the article. They're basically saying he's not viewed as an every down back because he's not fast enough... hogwash.

Just because a so-called experts spouts his opinion doesn't mean it's correct or even accurate. The draft pundits like Kiper are very wrong every year. The bottom line for me is that he is a power back that Miami desperately needs. Great fit for us.

I didn't read the article cause I don't read Walterfootball's evaluations cause I think they're one of the worst out there but if they're justifying Ajayi's slip because of a lack of breakaway speed that's just a very weak argument. Didn't Alfred Morris run a 4.68 at the combine? He's got back-to-back 1200+ yard seasons and three straight 1000 yard seasons. Carlos Hyde...pretty good rookie season, 4.61 at the combine, Jeremy Hill excellent rookie season, 4.58 at the combine, Eddie Lacy pretty good last couple of seasons, 4.64 at the combine...Jay Ajayi ran a 4.57.

The real reason he dropped is because nobody drafted him sooner.

Ajayi is our Zach Thomas this season - a 5th round gem that other team's BLEW IT by not drafting.

F you very much the other 31 teams! Congrats Hickey on being an absolute Yoda in this years draft!!! When 3 first rounders we have, other teams LOSE!!!

i'd have to agree...for all the hype i see around here on this kid if i got to pick one guy to not be what he's hyped to be in our class i'd pick ajayi...validate a 5th round pick sure hell if he makes the roster he pretty much does that but bell cow or monster pro even in a platoon i don't see it

hope i'm wrong...didnt see anything that validated a top 50 grade on tape here...nor do i see short yardage or goalline power back here...heck if i read it right he came to rookie camp at 216 lbs...doesnt play with 220 lb downhill back pop and takes massive contact giving the opposition a lot to hit...especially around his legs...

we'll see but i'm not banking on anything here...

People are hilarious. I remember a lot of people didn't see anything special about Jeremy Hill, said he wasn't physical enough as a RB. You don't need every big back to be Earl Campbell. Like Hill, Ajayi has great feet and breaks arm tackles. I don't like Ajayi as much as I did Hill, but there are some bottom-line similarities between the two.

The only thing Jeremy Hill did was taken the league by strom.

Dude is great, Jay has the potential, he doesn't have to be a workhorse as Miller is more than capable of having a great game.

Just need the kid to come in and playboy best.

As far as a total package RB Ajayi is pretty close to it. And he has that extra natural ability that most rbs just don't have.

If I had one knock on him, it's that hes not the smoothest runner. Kind of runs like he's on fire at times arms and legs just swinging all over the place. Takes really squared up hits quite often, But sometimes that can be a good thing. Some guys feed off that, I think he's one of them. I've seen him club 2-3 defenders in a row to break Tackles.

Reminds of one of my favorite running backs ever, Marion Barber.

jeremy hill was a better prospect more elusive and never took the kind of square contact ajayi has to date...not to mention i'm not a fan of the level of competition that ajayis tape is littered with...but if he runs with marion barber like pop and thru contact i will gladly eat crow on this one...

barber in his prime was an animal...of course barber also fell off a cliff suddenly but that's normal with most power runners...will be the same for marshawn lynch whenever his time comes
