ok....here goes....we move the ball from our 5 to inside their 10 1st drive of the game, then for some reason the play calling changes and we decide we can't gain any more yards by calling the same type of plays that got us there!! Am i in the minority in thinking "if it ain't broke don't fix it"?

i mean common,we average about 5 yards a carry in open field running wilcat plays when the D is obviously in stop run 1st mode ,so why change things near the goal line?

Anyone else feel this way?

I do agree with you that we should use the wc inside the rz because our regular offense is too predictable. It's either a rb draw, or...well another rb draw...

The wildcat is great for making big plays. I would like to see more of the Wildcat inside the 5. I think 2 plays out of 4 should not be uncommon.

I understand that the DL is stacked across the board. But the Wildcat is still good enough for 1-3 on a bad play. The PA pass off of it would be insane with P. White running it. But just saying hey, @$#@ you here it comes with Ronnie is the high % play.

There is NOTHING wrong with running the wildcat. It does not hurt our offense and even helps setup a normal run formation. When the Wildcat is ran back to back for a few series in the run, then the QB takes the snap under center, the run can be even more effective with the right field position.

The rest of our offense needs to improve. Yeah the passing game and deep balls. If Miami could just establish a real threat for the deep ball the offense would open up. But they do NOT have the talent ready right now to do it with basic 3 WR sets. They have to open it up for the 4-5 WR sets. They need to spread the defense, they still have their short routes with mid-long options as well.

When teams stop the wildcat, that is like saying when teams stuff the run in general. If a team cannot run the ball with a blocking advantage, what makes anyone think they could run the ball with it even across the board?

We have the talent to run the wildcat. Most teams do not have the talent much less the COACHING KNOWLEDGE on it that we do.

This is my exact complaint, the WC gives Ronnie the ability to see the potential weak spot in the defense and act appropriately. We don't need the big gain just a small hole to bull rush through, especially when a team shows it can't defend it. How huge would hand off to Ricky and then a dump pass to the TE releasing off his block and if it's not there then keep running. The possibilites are endless when we line up on a run first package and teams have to sell out to stop it.

The only real reason I could see for not running the wildcat inside the 10 yard line is the lack of field remaining. I mean if I saw the wildcat as a defense inside the 10 yard line, I would almost bet 99.9% of the time it is going to be a run, so the safeties are coming up into the box.

Sure you can pass the ball but now you have a limited area to throw the ball in with more defenders able to close on the ball and pick it off. I think having a true qb like white out there in the wildcat inside the 10 makes this much more viable than ronnie brown throwing the ball.

Just my 2 cents.

99.9 % of the time though teams already know we're gonna run the ball in that formation(and cant stop it) so why change when we're in close?

I noticed in the last two games that teams didn't bring the safeties up, I think they were afraid of giving up the big play. And I think that is why we were able to run all over them.

I wouldn't make blanket statement about other teams not being able to stop it. Baltimore and ATL both stopped it rather easily. If your making your run stopping assessment on both the colts and chargers run defense, I wouldn't. Both are pretty bad. Let's see what happens when we try to run against the jets here in a few weeks.

As you've just highlighted yourself...i'm not saying run it against Atl or Balt.... i'm simply making the statement, when it's workindg against a pourous run D like SD or INDY why get away from it in goal line situations? that makes zero sense to me

ok...point taken.....i never meant that as a blanket statement.....my bad... i got real frustrated the last 2 games knowing (we all seen this for ourselves) they couldn't stop us in this formation yet we bench it when in scoring range...i don't get that!!

I'll reiterate... this is where White & Brown need to be in the backfield inside the 10 in either a spread or wildcat look. The possibility of direct snap to either would keep the D guessing

If Turner were active all the better. Why? Put him in w/ Fasano & Haynos as the Receivers and Ricky as the other skill player. If the phins don't get 6 EVERY time something is wrong.

When the spread was first in vogue in college football early this decade, teams were reluctant to use it near the goal line. Apparently they feared to much chance for penetration and a busted play. It was high profile media ridicule when those shotgun snaps were blown up at the goal line. Slowly that concern has all but vanished. I think the NFL is where the college teams were 5 or 6 years ago.

It's still a physical running play. If NFL teams are so happy to use worthless give up fade passes on the goal line -- witness Dallas on two consecutive plays last night against an outmanned Carolina defense -- I can't believe they shun the Wildcat in that same scenario.

This is exactly where I expected Pat White to become an important part of the WC...so far, that hasn't happened. In fact, Pat White hasn't done much of anything...

I think the wildcat in the redzone would be great even if it's used as decoy to keep the defense on it's heels. I am not sure why we are not throwing to big targets in the redzone. I understand that Patrick Turner has been inactive the first three games (although he'd obviously be a great target to throw to in the endzone with his size), but why not throw it to say Haynos or Fasano? Lets take the redzone out of the equation, why not just get Fasano involved in the offense? I understand he fumbled twice (one was just a GREAT defense play by ATL but both extremely costly turnovers that hurt us badly) Week 1 against ATL but he's a great weapon to have in my opinion. We also must adjust our offense (passing more than anything) to Henne and I hope the coaches know this and do so accordingly.
