DRAFT 2009

1. C.Mathews ILB/OLB 6'3 240 4.67/40
He did everything well at the combine and will do everything all over again at his proday because he's a true football player that has nothing to hide. Only a one year starter as a walk on, has the moxie to be a excellent pro. He comes from a great football family that are the lunch pail family that BP loves. He will remind people of ZT the way he preps and eats, sleeps and poops football.

2. B.Robiskie WR 6'3 210 44.9/40
With Nicks,Britt,Bey,Maclin,Harvin,Crabtree all gone BP goes with the best route runner and most NFL ready WR in the draft. This reminds me of that draft where all these QB's kept getting picked and we settled on the leftover D.Marino!!!!!! I'm not saying he's gonna have the same impact but I'm willing to bet he'll be one of the top WR's from this draft after we look back 5 years from now.

2. P.Loadholt OT 6'8 332
We cannot pass on a talented OT that falls to the end of the 2nd. We need depth at OT and if our Guard(s) go down again we have Satele or even Carey sliding over inside and Loadholt taking over at RT.

3. J.Brinkley ILB 6'2 252 4.7/40
I know people will cry this is too high for Brinkley but with more teams looking to change to the 3/4 (Denver,GB etc...) the bigger LB's will be going quicker. Brinkley is a thumber inside and can compete with Akin for Crowders partner. BP loves his 3/4 players and Olineman big, bigger and huge and Brinkley falls right in line with this.

4. R.Miller NT 6'1 310 4.97/40
Very quick and agile NT to develope behind Fergy for a couple of years. With 36 reps on the bench he has the strength and speed to cause fits for Olines trying to block him.

5. D.Johnson CB 6'1 197 4.55/40
Big CB that ran a slow 40 at the combine (who didn't) that has his stock slip a bit. If he runs closer to the 4.3 at his pro day as expected he may jump back up to the 3rd round. Some believe CB needs to be taken earlier but the front seven will help develope our CB's into solid performers, so i do believe we will select a CB later then some think.

7. B.McCain CB
4.33/40 only 5'9 but his speed speaks volumes. The other CB for Utah's undefeated season, a real solid CB that seems to get over looked.

7. T.Fiammetta FB 6'0 245 4.63/40
A punishing blocker with nice hands out of the backfield. Polite was real good for us last year in short yardage plays but I believe that we will slowly become more of a pounding, punishing run team (getting away from the wildcat) and Tony is a pure blocking FB unlike Polite.

7. S.Hodge SS 6'0 234 4.54/40
In the box Saftey with LB size. ST player that can slowly develope.

The first thing some will comment on is the need for a CB earlier in the draft but only if all the OLB/ILB(1st round talent) are gone by 25 then the best CB will be taken. BP believes in the front seven being the key to good CB's thus allowing us to select one later in the draft.

This draft covers us in the LB spots and future NT, while getting a solid RT that falls alittle.

Also I really do see us taking a FB because I really think our Coaching staff only put in the wildcat beause of our struggles to run between the tackles. With a healthy Oline and a new Center we will go back to what they wanted to do all along and pound the rock. I'm sure the Cat isn't dead but all this talk of drafting a player(s) just for a package of plays is ludicrous.

Fire Away!!!!!!!

I like the top 2 picks, however for #3 NT Ron Brace if he's still around would be a better fit. If he's gone then taking the best player availible makes sense, if thats Loadholt then thats fine never can have enough linemen.

Not bad, I like the #1, 2a, and the 3rd pick but I don't think picking Loadholt is a neccesity anymore. Both of our tackles are locked up for a while, we have a lot of money invested in our o-line already, plus we have glaring needs on defense (CB, LB depth, and DL dept).

how do you say we address corner with that? i like it but who is starting opposite Will Allen?

We have zero depth behind our Tackles and if one goes down we're screwed. BPA justifies taking an OT there just as if S.Smith or D.Butler were still available we'd take one of them. Because Carey is so versatile taking the BPA OT covers both the Guard depth and OT depth. If TS thinks they can find another D.Thomas type later then great we select another position otherwise BPA all the way.

N.Jones, J.Allen may start there or one of these rookies. W.Allen will take care of the Moss, Owens type players while the other CB takes the next guy in line. Again I looked at how BP will build the front seven to gain pressure on the QB to force quicker throws to allow good CB's to look and play alot better then they really are.

If CB was such a big priority for our FO then we would have been bidding on the FA's that were out there. They don't believe in spending big dollars on a position that benefits from the front seven, even the big name CB's can't cover WR's all day if there's no pressure.

I understand that, but you don't draft someone in the SECOND round to be a depth player. You draft someone that early to be a starter.

I don't agree with moving Carey to guard to accomodate Loadholt. I don't like the idea of paying Carey right tackle money to have him play right guard, I think it is not a smart move when we still have a serious CB void.

i understand what you're saying about not overspending, but NO WAY are Jones and J. Allen capable starters. I would be willing to bet a sick amount of money that we address CB somewhere in the first two rounds. we have GLARING holes at cb, no way do we wait til round 5 for a corner unless we pick up lucas or someone else (which i dont really see happening either).

I only said if the injuries happen again to one of the Guards that we could move Carey. At that point who cares what anyone is making you do what's best for the team to win games.

[I understand that, but you don't draft someone in the SECOND round to be a depth player. You draft someone that early to be a starter./QUOTE]

We all know NFL contracts aren't worth the paper their written on. I only selected Loadholt based on BPA and I also stated if a real good CB fell that we would select him instead.BPA.

[I can hear skipp puking now cause of the Robiskie pick /QUOTE]

I tried to show that the other options had already been selected. Fans get so caught up in the combine numbers and are blind to the fact that the quality of route running makes up for speed any day. It's a real hard thing for players to grasp how to set up your cuts and to do it with out slowing down at all. Nicks is a guy i would love to take but he won't be there in the 2nd and BP won't take him in the first.

Jake Grove is taking over the center position, he will win that job. If we do not trade Samson Satele, he will provide adequate depth at the guard positions. Furthermore, we can bring in a FA guard to provide more depth for a lot less than 2nd round money.

Yeah, we need OT depth.

Finally someone else sees Clay Matthews as a ILB prospect. However, don't like the Loadholt pick that early and think Jasper and Miller were picked real early. Also, would like an earlier CB pick

no way for clay matthews in the 1st round ... he is a walk on for a reason ... he has no upside .. i am afraid he has possibly peaked and wont get any better ... id rather take WR Nicks at 25

I do agree we need OT depth, just not a Day One pick. It should be a day two pick and a FA pick up.
