DRAFT 2009
1. C.Mathews ILB/OLB 6'3 240 4.67/40
He did everything well at the combine and will do everything all over again at his proday because he's a true football player that has nothing to hide. Only a one year starter as a walk on, has the moxie to be a excellent pro. He comes from a great football family that are the lunch pail family that BP loves. He will remind people of ZT the way he preps and eats, sleeps and poops football.
2. B.Robiskie WR 6'3 210 44.9/40
With Nicks,Britt,Bey,Maclin,Harvin,Crabtree all gone BP goes with the best route runner and most NFL ready WR in the draft. This reminds me of that draft where all these QB's kept getting picked and we settled on the leftover D.Marino!!!!!! I'm not saying he's gonna have the same impact but I'm willing to bet he'll be one of the top WR's from this draft after we look back 5 years from now.
2. P.Loadholt OT 6'8 332
We cannot pass on a talented OT that falls to the end of the 2nd. We need depth at OT and if our Guard(s) go down again we have Satele or even Carey sliding over inside and Loadholt taking over at RT.
3. J.Brinkley ILB 6'2 252 4.7/40
I know people will cry this is too high for Brinkley but with more teams looking to change to the 3/4 (Denver,GB etc...) the bigger LB's will be going quicker. Brinkley is a thumber inside and can compete with Akin for Crowders partner. BP loves his 3/4 players and Olineman big, bigger and huge and Brinkley falls right in line with this.
4. R.Miller NT 6'1 310 4.97/40
Very quick and agile NT to develope behind Fergy for a couple of years. With 36 reps on the bench he has the strength and speed to cause fits for Olines trying to block him.
5. D.Johnson CB 6'1 197 4.55/40
Big CB that ran a slow 40 at the combine (who didn't) that has his stock slip a bit. If he runs closer to the 4.3 at his pro day as expected he may jump back up to the 3rd round. Some believe CB needs to be taken earlier but the front seven will help develope our CB's into solid performers, so i do believe we will select a CB later then some think.
7. B.McCain CB
4.33/40 only 5'9 but his speed speaks volumes. The other CB for Utah's undefeated season, a real solid CB that seems to get over looked.
7. T.Fiammetta FB 6'0 245 4.63/40
A punishing blocker with nice hands out of the backfield. Polite was real good for us last year in short yardage plays but I believe that we will slowly become more of a pounding, punishing run team (getting away from the wildcat) and Tony is a pure blocking FB unlike Polite.
7. S.Hodge SS 6'0 234 4.54/40
In the box Saftey with LB size. ST player that can slowly develope.
The first thing some will comment on is the need for a CB earlier in the draft but only if all the OLB/ILB(1st round talent) are gone by 25 then the best CB will be taken. BP believes in the front seven being the key to good CB's thus allowing us to select one later in the draft.
This draft covers us in the LB spots and future NT, while getting a solid RT that falls alittle.
Also I really do see us taking a FB because I really think our Coaching staff only put in the wildcat beause of our struggles to run between the tackles. With a healthy Oline and a new Center we will go back to what they wanted to do all along and pound the rock. I'm sure the Cat isn't dead but all this talk of drafting a player(s) just for a package of plays is ludicrous.
