Do you think this was smart to pass on Darryl Blackstock with our 3rd pick??? Kiper has had him as the best available for 10+ picks it seems. How does everyone think he compares to our pick?

I liked Blackstock a lot, and would have been very happy with him. The difference between him and Crowder is upside. Blackstock has a better shot to be a solid pro, whereas Crowder is more a boom or bust pick. Either he's going to be a poor man's Ray Lewis, or he'll be out of the league in two years because of injuries (he has knee problems, which is what pushed him down to us, else he was a first rounder). I don't think there's much middle ground. Right now, I put it 60/40 between those two.

Personally I would've draft Blackstock. I guess Saban wants a ILB instead of an OLB. Crowder is still a good pick, but where's the offense?

Good to see another phins fan from Rochester...I am pretty surprised about our pick as well, hopefully his knee holds up. I can't figure out what is taking Blackstock so long to go...Kiper must not know something these coaches do.

blackstock is more of a pass rushing LB and has problems in pass coverage, Crowder is very good in coverage especially covering TE in the flat, he is a great pickup, i love sabans first draft, we probably got ourselves 3 starters today

Exactly, Blackstock is made for the 3-4 defense as a blitzing LB similar to Colvin & Adalius Thomas. They aren't good for much else.

The more I read about the both of them, I think Crowder has much more potential than Blackstock. Its all gonna come down to injuries, I think the guy already had 2 knee surgeries in HS!

I wanted Blackstock for his mere pass-rushing skills alone. With Roth as a run stopper, Blackstock rushing, all out other monsters -- we would have one of the most disruptive, nasty defenses in the NFL.

The question should be why pick Roth when we could have picked Blackstock, because we got ourselves another OLB/Passrusher in Roth. Drafting Blackstock would be doing it again (ie buying more ketchup).

Bottom line is, we liked Roth better. And, Crowder could end up awesome backing up Zach or playing right alongside him in various formations.

after i saw so many videos in the last hour , i love the roth pick, he will be a lot of fun to watch i think

Roth can play OLB on passing downs.

Crowder is better then Blackstock.

The defense is putting together some heavy hitters and offenses wont like to play the phins.
