Ross doesn't like him because he cost him 40million$ and he is the one with the checkbook.
again NO he doesn't. He jokingly said to Billick that he owed him money and Billick started acting like a punk.
I don't get why people want Billick. People say he's an offensive genius when his only good offenses were as an OC in Minny with multiple Hall of Famers on the offense, with Pro Bowlers on the offense as well (when pro bowls meant something). Hell when he won the Super Bowl his offense went 5 weeks STRAIGHT without scoring a TD. Marvin Lewis had built that defense up since 1996.
Now people can say Billick adjusted to his personnel... BS. He tried to open up the offense. Again, I've lived in Harrisburg since 2000. Technically we're in the Baltimore market, I saw a bunch of Billick's teams over the last 12 years. He simply couldn't do squat. And this is with having a pretty decent RB in Jamal Lewis, a great TE in Todd Heap, a number 1 WR in Derrick Mason (though aging) and a top notch OL ALL IN THEIR PRIME. Only season he had a decent offense was when Lewis rushed for 2000 yards.
So yeah not an offensive genius
Do any coaches excel without good personnel?
I've seen coaches get the most out of their teams via scheme. Look at those Eagle teams that went to what, 4 straight NFC championship games? Outside of the one year with TO, Andy Reid took a team with Todd Pinkston, James Thrash, and Freddie Mitchell as his top WRs and LJ Smith and CHad Lewis as his TEs within a game of the Super Bowl 3 times before getting a great talent. Hell, he did it with pretty much no rushing game as well. Hell the last NFC championship game he went to was with a rookie Desean Jackson, Hank Baskett and Greg Lewis as top WRs.
Eagles had a franchise quarterback--that makes all the difference. They didn't get to multiple NFC championships because of Todd Pinkston and Chad Lewis.
Okay, but when McNabb got hurt various times, AJ Feeley, Jeff Garcia, and Ty Detmer all excelled in the system as well and the Eagles made the playoffs with them having to take over until McNabb was healthy. And when McNabb left, Mike Vick picked up with no problem. Same with The Pats still getting 10 wins with Matt Cassell.
The Eagles got nowhere without McNabb. And I think the answer to your implication is that Andy Reid is a quarterbacks guru. (The Dolphins know that all to well when they were hosed for Feeley.)
But my point is, teams without good players don't win, period. Bill Belichick is a great coach, maybe the best ever, but his defense is still the worst in the league right now because he can't make them better overnight. Billick may not have been the mastermind of the Ravens' defense, but I hardly think it's fair to chalk up any success his offense or team had to "good players." Good players made Tony Dungy, Mike McCarthy, and others what they were.
Chris I think you are right to a certain degere.
I still think the fact that Billick has barely gotten an interview in so many years is really telling. Nobody wants him. You have to admit that his super bowl win was essentially riding that historical defense.
