to see how he pans out maybe 1 or 2 series just to see how he plays

He injured his elbow pretty bad (from the media write-ups) a few weeks ago. I'm not sure if he's even healthy enough to play.

why not give the de hes playing against a few sacks then

nah j/k the guys a rookie and hes not ready to play yet ok ;)

According to Finheaven's front page, we're going to be using Joe Berger at RG some. I'm sure we would be using Alabi if he were healthy.

I thought he was on IR from a few weeks back. Otherwise I agree...

Actually I was getting him cornfused with Vickerson... Sportsline.com doesnt show him as being on the injury list. This is strange. Maybe dude just isnt ready to play.

maybe...

and yes alabi is a rook but some people here were high on him.... and we got to focus long term here we have only a limited chance to make the playoffs and we got to find out what we have (if he's healthy of course)

The reason why we aren't giving him a shot right now is because we already have three T's playing ahead of him. While McIntosh and Carey are starting, McDougle is the backup T that plays. It will be interesting to see how Berger plays in the game. I hope that he does well in it.

Isn't Alabi a tackle though?

It doesnt matter. Theoretically, you can take any Tackle in the league and have him play Guard. It's the same general concepts, it's just you are going against stronger, slower defenders over a smaller amount of space.

The only real problem with converting a Tackle to Guard is making sure the player has the right build for it. Tackles alot of the time are lighter, taller, and sometimes arent as good a fit for the interior.

Alabi has the exact same build a Steve Hutchinson. So does Berger, for that matter.

We arent out of the playoffs yet, why would we risk letting a rookie "test the waters."

Because we've got a hole at RG, a O-line coach who has done an amazing job of coaching up players during his career, and a single rookie at RG will not kill us.

Not to mention to get to the playoffs requires some amazing luck.

I doubt Alabi has even practiced at RG since he has been learning the LT spot. Berger has been practicing at the spot and is thus more able to play.

Why isn't Alabi playing? The 45 man roster is the big reason. The back-up Olinemen play on the punt, FG, and XP teams. Not only would Alabi have to play "a few snaps" at LT, he would also have to play extensively on ST and he likely isn't ready for that
