Ross believes Ireland is a smart, savvy talent evaluator, even though several of his moves haven’t panned out…. He likes what Ireland did in his first draft without Bill Parcells around (Mike Pouncey, Daniel Thomas, etc.)… He doesn’t hold Ireland largely responsible for the 2008-2010 bad picks, such as Pat White, a player Ireland did not push for. He knows Parcells made a lot of those calls…

He knows Sparano had ample say in some of the questionable offensive line pickups, such as Marc Colombo and John Jerry, because that was Sparano’s supposed area of expertise.… Ross liked the Reggie Bush signing, which was Ireland’s call… He agrees with Ireland for not relenting or giving up too much (draft pick and longterm money) for Denver’s Kyle Orton, whose 80.9 quarterback rating this season is barely ahead of Chad Henne’s 79.0…

I was looking around to see if anyone had posted this before I posted it again.

It's disappointing how well Ireland has deceived Ross. He's basically deflected the 2008-2010 drafts on Parcells, the picks of John Jerry and pickup of Colombo has been deflected and blamed on Sparano...basically all the glaring deficiencies on the team are not his fault. Ross should wake up and realize that if Ireland is not to blame for any of the teams problem then he's been stealing money from him for sitting in an office and having a title of GM and doing nothing with it for 3 years.

The other comments in there about Sparano though are interesting. It seems despite the public vote of confidence Sparano is living on a week-to-week basis and Nolan, followed by Karl Dorrell, would be next in line to take over should he be fired during the season. The article also mentions that if he hired Cowher or any other high profile coach that wants to bring his own personnel department in, that won't be a deal breaker and Ireland will be gone. Ross will try to convince the new coach to stick with Ireland but if he says no then Ireland is out of here.

Pat White was 100% on Parcells. I don't know about the rest, but the wildcat experiment was 100% Parcells trying to prove that the single wing could work in the modern NFL.

Boy people will believe everything they read. Ross has to blow smoke up everyone's butts about his employees. Owners and managers of every business does this. otherwise their employees sabotage your business.

What you're missing is that while Ross may or may not think anything about Ireland.. don't think for a second he wouldn't be ruthless enough to throw him under to get the big name coach he wants.

I think Ireland is going to survive simply because he is Carl Peterson's protege and Ross trusts Carl Peterson.

I just wish it was possible to get rid of Ross. I think the guy is clueless about football and will just try to hire and sign big names to placate the fans. Hopefully he accidentally hires the right guy to run this team.

Ireland could potentially stick around which I'm okay with. I would imagine Cowher/Gruden/Fisher would have final say, which would leave the option open to keep Ireland.

3 more months until we know how this all plays out. Or a few ugly losses and we might find out sooner than later who the next head coach of our beloved franchise is.

Doesn't this article say Ross would be willing to part with Ireland if the new coach wanted to bring in his own guys?

I fully expect Ireland to get the boot if things continue to unfold the way they are. Can't see either Gruden or Cowher keeping Ireland but you never know.

Yes it does.. so that's why I can't understand why people are getting so uptight.

I really wish people would start judging Ross' football smarts once we see the results of the front office personnel that he actually hires himself. Not a front office he has inherited.

He has YET to take out the trash.

I could still possibly see Cowher or Gruden coming even if Ireland is here. Ireland might just lose a lot of his power and be mostly a scout. Sort of like Mueller had the phony GM tilte under Saban.

That is a possibility. I don't see either Cowher or Gruden not getting final say.

Last I knew the VP of Football Operations was vacant. Don't think Ireland will go down he might actually go up.

Agreed but one man's trash is another's treasure so next year will be telling.
