I originally posted this link in the NFL draft forum, but now that he's a Dolphin, I hope the mods don't mind if I repost it here:

It's a very thorough article by Matt Waldman (who actually has a couple more on Tanehill on his website) analyzing with edited frame-by-frame pictures one of Tanehhil's worst halves of football (statistically speaking).

Oh, and check out the comments, as there's some interesting stuff there as well.

Great read. Very informative.

Good read, but not a very balanced article imo. As Parcells used to say, "It isn't how many good plays a QB makes, it's how few bad ones."

I think the analysis of the 13 incomplete passes and interception would go further in determining if he is worthy of being a first-round prospect. IMO studying Tannehill's statistically-poor play would tell a lot more. Were the passes incomplete do to heavy pass rush in which Tannehill threw ball away, passes were dropped, interception was a deflection, etc...? Or was Tannehill not accurate with passes, looked down WRs resulting in interception, etc...

Almost every QB has a highlight reel each week. The greats ones don't often have a lowlight reel. Throwing 15 interceptions as a 5th year senior is a lot for a first round prospect. Three 3 interception games also doesn't bode so well.

Of course, the second consideration is whether he is worthy of being the #8 selection. Big difference between taking a QB at #8 or #28.

I am not a Tannehill hater, but I have my doubts he was worthy of such a high pick. But such is life in the NFL when your only QBs are Moore and Garrard.

Are you really gonna quote Bill Parcells on quarterbacks like he's an authority?

Maybe we should put a 3 second clock in for Tannehill in practice.

this was a great analysis, and it's what i've been saying all along. I don't understand how the so called experts say he doesn't have enough experience but doesn't take in account that he comes from a pro style west coast offense but they can say somebody like Weeden is more prepared to start day 1 but he comes from a spread offense or for that matter even RG3 who played in a 1 read offensive system.

The fawning over RG3 is just bizarre. The fact that he somehow got hyped up as if he was a prospect equal to Andrew Luck still makes me scratch my head.
