So why Butler? Why not Titans right tackle Jack Conklin? Why not Patriots offensive guard Joe Thuney? The Dolphins would certainly be wise to target either one of those players as well — but Conklin and Thuney will have demand and cost a more premium pick. Butler? He’s struggled and is the team’s 4th defensive tackle at this point. There’s lower risk and lower cost — even though it admittedly comes with a lower ceiling.

What can Butler offer the Dolphins? Upside. A change of scenery is a must for the former Louisiana Tech product, who could be a potential nose tackle when Miami looks to go into odd fronts.

Just like the Rosen trade — minimal risk on a once promising prospect. And if he booms, Miami either gets a new starter or will flip him for higher compensation than the current price tag.

That should read, He's lower risk, because he's lower price. "And" is double counting. If you remove cost, the other two are better players at positions of greater need.

That said, I would trade a Day 3 pick for Butler.

I wouldn't trade a single pick for any player on another. They should save all of there draft assets in case they have to move up in next year's draft to grab a qb. The team is rebuilding and needs as many picks as possible to bring in cheap young talent at as many positions as they can.

A day 3 pick is a drop in the bucket if we need to move up for a QB.

Miami is better served using low assets to protect the QB we just acquired. He is an extremely talented passer in his own right.

Draft and develop your own talent. Trading for players who already look like busts on other teams makes no sense when your own team is projected to be the worst team in the league. Why trade for a player who is an FA next offseason? That is a dumb move our previous FO would have done: throw away a pick and sign the guy to a multi-year contract just to dump him for nothing 2 years later and eat all the dead cap money.

I think the you hear more stories of players who struggled at their first stop but bounced back with their second or even third team than you stories of 5th, 6th and 7th round picks who have good careers. I'm not saying you can't find day three success stories, but there are also a number of resurrected career stories too.

Veteran players make more money than late round draft picks also. There is no need paying marginal veteran players at this stage of a total rebuild especially if you don't even know if you have a franchise qb yet.

The biggest priority this season is to see what you have in Josh Rosen. Holding a late day 3 pick ain’t nothing if that pick can land you a decent RT option.

LOL at Miami if Tennessee said give me a 6 for Conklin and we were like “nah man we don’t want his $2.5 million dollar salary and we need pick 210 to trade up for a QB”.

Come on. No you just don’t start handing out picks for 1 year options, but there are exceptions depending on your needs. Would hardly call Conklin marginal if he is healthy. More like “ideal”.

But he ain’t available so this is a burnt conversation anyways.

Or its a Pats move where they trade for a guy with a late pick, let him walk a year later and end up with a higher rated comp pick the following draft.
