I was listening to Sporting News Radio last night, and Ben Maller said he heard from "sources close to the team" that one of the reasons the Dolphins didn't pull the trigger on the trade with the Lions is that a bunch of Dolphin players went to Saban and said they don't want Harrington on the team. They said he's soft, he's not a leader, and is disruptive in the lockerroom. I don't know how much of this is really true or how much it had to do with not making the trade. I'm sure if Detroit would take a 7th rounder, the trade would be done already. But it's still interesting. I'd still like to have Harrington over Maddox or Martin.

True, he is soft and not a leader, but we don't have much of a choice now

I think it has more to do with Millen wanting a 3rd or a 4th and us only offering a 6th next year.

Saban will not let the players dictate who we get and who we don't. If they want Leadership they should have been looking for Frerotte's head last year because he sure did lack it.

Heres a reason why the trade should not happen.

Because Joey f-ings sucks and isnt worth a 7th round pick.

What has Harrington done in his career that inspires any kind of confidence in him. I don't watch a lot of Detroit Lions games (thank God) but I rarely see him doing anything other that getting sacked or throwing a horrible pick. I would rather see Brock Berlin backing up DC if need be. Hopefully Saban will not offer the Lions more than a 7th round pick....I think we can get a better backup without wasting a draft pick.

This deal would have been dead for me as soon as Millen uttered "we want a 3rd and a 4th for Joey".

My response would have been :sidelol:.

Man we are going after him as a backup, not a franchise player. Harrington is good enough to start on like 5-10 teams in the NFL. Most teams would be lucky to have him as a backup QB.

That sounds like tabloid-esque crap.

Post 900 on the topic, and you've still contributed nothing to the discussion other than hyperbole.

Excellent post...Harrington would be a good backup. Do we really want Lemon or Maddox as our QB for any extended period of time, should Culpepper be out?

I would rather see a direct snap to whoever is in at RB every play until Culpepper is healthy rather than Brock Berlin. I'm sure I'll get flamed for this blasphemy since the over riding sentiment in Miami seems to be that anyone who ever suited up for the Hurricanes is a demi-god.

Brock Berlin has always been a scatter armed QB with questionable decision making skills. Think A. J. Feeley. Could have a solid game, or throw 4 picks, or complete no passes for a half. They should have invested whatever it would have taken to keep Rosenfels.

Harrington is cut from the same cloth but at least he has experience playing against NFL defenses. However, we're definitely running out of options.

First off, see the Brock Berlin thead. He isn't liked here.

Second of all, to the original poster--if you want Brock Berlin as a backup, then all I have to say is thank God nobody made you GM. That is the silliest, most awful idea I've ever heard.

The guy's arm/technique is awful. Even that big comeback he had against the Gators...I couldn't believe nobody was defensing his wobbly passes.

I know this topic has been beaten to death, but this is the a big problem with Harrington. I dont care if other phins went to Saban, or that Detroit wanted a 3rd or 4th. I have seen a lot of Detroit games, and I dont see any confidence in him. Confidence is HUGE to run an offense, for both the QB and the rest of the players/coaches. I would rather have someone (TBA), that everyone has confidence in, including himself. Maybe the Detroit staff did not do enough to nurture him, and maybe he can turn it around with better support, but his type of play is acceptable for 1st year qbs. He is definately not a franchise QB, and I dont think its worth the price for a backup.
