Whether or not you think Penny is playing well (I do). Even if you're dying for a QB that can "make all the throws" (even though there's no such thing). EVEN IF you feel that "noodle arm" is old and on his way out with a soon to come inevitable injury....

Why the hell do you all love Henne so much? You're all convinced as soon as he steps in its going to be '84 Marino all over again. He was a 2nd rounder that had a 'decent' off season and didn't at all instill the confidence of a starter to our staff and coaches who rushed to get Penny when the chance came up.

I like Henne, I think he'll be good, but I would never want an uncertain thing over a sure thing. I want Penny to stay as healthy as possible, and if he's playing at this level, to play as long as he can. As for Henne? I think he' alright but would love to see him battle for a starting job against someone else (post Penny). Who's son is he that he is automatically going to become King when Penny dies?

I don't get it? When did he prove that he is really 'the qb of the future'. I've been looking back at the last few draft and even QBs taken in the FIRST ROUND are at best a 50/50 shot to be a decent starter... yet Henne is magically going to overcome all that without question and become our savior?

Please, let him prove it first. I say we forget the term "QB of the future" until its too late to use the term (i.e. the person is already in place).

haven't you ever heard that the backup QB is the fan's favorite player ?

Yeah. But on this site, its not your normal "Bench the starter and give the other guy a shot" type stuff.

Here, what I'm reading is: "Henne should start (next game, next season, ASAP, RIGHT NOW!!) because he is the QB of the future and the next dan marino, and a future hall-a-famer and mankind's savior and I want his children!!"

I had a hard time reading your post, you signature was giving me a headache in my perivial vision

It annoyed the mess out of me.

Anyway, Henne has a strong arm and is young. I won't call him the QB of the future until I see some playing time out of him. Ryan...Maybe, Flacco...not impressing me too much, Quinn...too early to tell, Henne...I have nothing to evaluate on.

I'm not in love with him, I choose not to love what I can't see, and I haven't seen him in action to a meaningful point. Pennington is on his way to leading us to the playoffs and that is my QB for right now, I wouldn't change it.

I don't think that is necessarily true. I think he did install confidence and would have been the starter. However, I don't think the front office/coaching staff wanted to start the season with a rookie quarterback. Especially a rookie quarterback for a team coming off a 1-15 season.

Did Carson Palmer not instill the confidence of a starter to the Bengals coaches his rookie year? He did sit on the bench while Jon Kitna was starting. No, they knew Plamer was the long term QB, however, they didn't want to throw him into the fire right away. They let him sit his rookie year and learn under a veteran QB.

The Dolphins really didn't want to throw Henne in as a rookie and possibly watch him crash and burn like John Beck did last year. That is why Josh McCown was brought to this team. It was thought at the time of his signing that he would hold the reigns for the year until Beck or a quarterback they would draft(which was Henne) was ready. McCown showed he was not even worth being that veteran. When Pennington became available, they saw a guy that they knew, was a solid veteran and that would come with no compensation.

The Dolphins get to do what they wanted to originally do. Have a veteran QB run the team and have Henne sit on the bench and learn.

Now, does that mean Henne will be the starter in 09' and Pennington will be cut or benched? No, it doesn't. Like Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay with Brett Favre, you let Pennington run the team until he can't anymore or until Henne is with no doubt the better option. With a year sitting on the bench absorbing the NFL game, he may end up taking the starting job outright. Pennington may be the starter again in 09', but I think he will have an open competition with Henne, as it should be.

I think you are overestimateing the ammount of people that want Chad benched for Henne. I, for one, am anxious to see him play, but, when he's ready, or the situations dictates.

Curious.

Do you think a team's QB (the leader) should have to battle for his job every off-season? Or do you think that Penny hasn't done good enough to warrant a freebie in the off-season?

Personally, I think having a secure, in-place leader is good for the team.

Competition brings out the best in players. If Pennington is with no doubt the better QB, the competition won't last long.

Agreed, I wouldn't want a QB practice like $#!& for the rest of his career because everybody knows he is the starter. WHY would you want one of the main leaders of your team to sit back and hold off in practice.

The leader PROVES he is the leader, if he can't win an open competition for the starting job than he doesn't deserve to BE the starter to open up the game. TAKE the guy that earned the job, the guy that fought for the job, because obviously the guy that WON the start is the one who wants to win more or who just has the better talent.

Take it for what it is, Win the Competition, Win the Players trust around you.

I really hope we go the Aaron Rodgers route with Henne, unless of course, he beats out Penny and earns his spot as the starter, or Penny goes down with injury (god forbid)

I think people have that feeling because we want the next superstar quarterback. I'm satisfied with penny for right now, but it never hurts to look into the future. I always liked him, i know it sucks that he was a jet, but lalways thought he was a qb that i hated facing, like kelly, brady.

I hope we sign penny for at least a 2 year contract. THat should give Henne plenty of time to know the system. and come out striking.

Well the fact that they only signed Penny to a 2year deal means that they only wnt him until they feel that Chad Henne is ready personally i think that penny should be playing for another year at least 3 years because he is the most consistent QB wE HAVE HAD IN 13 YEARS. so the fact that penny was only signed Short term tells me that they want Henne to learn from him and take over when Henne i is ready :woot:

I dont remember too many people saying he's the next Marino. But he has the arm and size that I think make people think he can hang in there and turn into a franchise type QB. You cant assesss anyone until you see them play in the NFL and sometimes if they arent in the right situation, it wont matter.

I mean, should we NEVER play Henne because someone thinks he might not be the next Marino (and most know that he probably won't be anyway)? I dont understand the premise of the original post. Henne might be the future, he might not. But you cant just hand pick a franchise QB. How many teams in the whole league actually have a young franchise QB who is playing at a high level right now? How bout we wait and see how he plays when given the chance?

Thats because there are plenty of irrational people on this site. I can only speak for myself in saying that i hope Chad Henne sits as long as possible, to watch and to learn, to grasp the offense, to adjust from the college game. I look at Chad Pennington not as a long term solution, as a QB that will deliver us a Super Bowl but as a guy who can step in now and do the job well while Chad Henne develops.

The more Pennington and this team succeed this season, the less likely we see Chad Henne and i think that's a good thing because it means you can come into next training camp with two viable options for QB a more matured and developed Henne and of course the proven veteran Pennington.
