The Raiders are so hurting to free up additional cap space that they've already had quarterback Kerry Collins restructure his contract twice! Collins understandably is not taking any more calls from the Raiders.

Oakland is still desperate to unload cornerback Charles Woodson, who's due to make more than $10 million this season, and, sources tell The Post, the club is willing to take less than the two No. 1 picks required to sign a franchise player.

"At this point, we'd probably take a one and a five or a seven," one front-office member said. "We're hoping to get something done before camp."

Also, sources close to the club say to watch the Raiders' cap situation closely in the near future, as a result of personnel executive Mike Lombardi. In a change of recent Oakland policy, Lombardi has been giving out guaranteed bonuses and up-front money to players, something that will certainly catch up to the Raiders before too long.

---Who in their right mind would shell out a 1st & 5th or 7th with Surtain still available? :roflmao:

They're not going to get that because Woodson is less talented, costs more and costs more in draft picks as well. Maybe whe Surtain is off the market they will start to get some lowball offers I think.

Peterson & Greasy Al hate each other. Peterson would take the chance to lose Surtain to get to Davis.

Woodson signed the one year contract so the two 1st don't even apply anymore. The two first round picks are only for players who are tagged and have not signed the deal. once they sign on the dotted line that no longer applies.

By only offering Miami a 4th for Surtain & nobody seems to have offered more. No way in heck Oakland gets a better offer than a 4th. It's not about insulting Miami with the 4th round offer, it's about putting the screws to Al Davis. Saban is aware of this & knows there is no rush. He'll come out just fine

that's awesome... hopefully it shuts some of these zealous dolphin fans up.

You mean the ones who wouldn't mind seeing Surtain traded to clear up some much needed cap space for the team?

I think the KC trade isn't happening because of this.:shout::boohoo:
Saban and Vermiel.

Better a zealolus fan than an obnoxious fan there, piddlepants.:D

Carl isn't trying to bend Saban over and do him dry here, he just wants him to squat on it for a week and let him know on the 23rd

Great news, I bet that 4th is looking better and better to Saban

The article is a bit interesting - but what does the article have to do with the title of this thread, "Why the Surtain trade hasn't happened?"

And, why the question mark? Is the title a question?

Nope not really. We'll keep him.
