The money:
Maxwell has $8.5M guaranteed in 2016 and a $10M salary the year after, but only $3M of it is guaranteed. The numbers stagnate in the final years of the deal but it wouldn’t be a surprise to see a restructure if the deal were to go through. The Dolphins are already in a rocky ship with the future of Brent Grimes uncertain and if they are to cut him, it wouldn’t cost them a lot of excess to acquire Maxwell….who could well emerge as his long term replacement.

One man’s trash is another man’s treasure:
Byron Maxwell struggled under Chip Kelly and Billy Davis, there’s no denying it. The Eagles Defense last season was hugely based on one-on-one coverage which saw Maxwell’s flaws heavily highlighted. In Seattle, their Defense was much closer to a Zone scheme which meant he didn’t have to keep up with Receivers as often and his aerial ability was utilised much more.

The consequence:
Obviously this would need to benefit both teams and not only would Miami be signing a Corner who fits their scheme, but the contract isn’t as big and scary as it appears..especially if Grimes is eventually cut or finds a new home.

Offseason is always more exciting than the season itself

It makes plenty of sense for teh Eagles to recover from serious mistake of overpaying this guy makes no sense for us to take their place overpaying him.

The report I just saw is that they're are reworking his contract, but let's see how this goes. There's plenty of reasons to be skeptical, but there's a small chance the deal will work out all right for us.

Im sure they are reworking it so our hit this year isnt so much but he isnt just going to all of a sudden make his contract affordable because he had plenty of guaranteed money already in contract

He's essentially on a 1 year deal. Dolphins have no obligation to pay any guaranteed money unless they opt to keep him. If they do he only has 3.5 in guarantees left. That makes him cheaper than Grimes and you don't have the side show Grimes brings. Also, the way I'm reading this deal is that Alonso was the main target and Maxwell is being thrown in. That tells me that Maxwell's contract is not going to cause any long term issues against the cap.

Now if you want to discuss his issues in Philly that's a different story but this is not a financially foolish move.

Long term or not you are still paying 9 million for a corner that is not that good plus the 3 million in dead money to Grimes so you really dont save a dime and u downgrade corner.
Overpaying for a corner is quite a foolish financial move

You were paying Grimes the 9 mil so it's a wash and based on Grimes play, he's trending down pretty rapidly. Granted Maxwell was bad in Philly but that Philly team was a mess as a whole. Not sure just how much of a downgrade if any, it is.

The downgrade is Grimes is better than MAxwell so you essentially are paying 12 million to switch out corners because of Grimes dead money.
Maxwell has never performed as a number one corner anywhere and never has been better than Grimes not sure how this is not a downgrade.
A trending down Grimes as a number one corner was still better last year than an overpaid MAxwell as a number one

But our defense was a mess too last year so?

Can't deny Maxwell was bad in Philly but can hope that Joseph can get him back to functioning the way he did in Seattle. As for Grimes dead money, to me the issues Miko brought to the locker room are worth every cent of that 3 mil to see him gone.

And you have an inside source that says they're done?
