Its not just Murlarkey, but a lot of coaches try to force feed nfl fans their "genius" status at the worst times.
I find really confusing why coaches don't go with plays that have higher percentage chance of working when in the red zone.

Yeah, I thought they would roll out Daunte to the right. He would look for McMichael or Chambers to be open and if they weren't then he would run it in. I figured that would be the safest play since the running game was such a non-factor in the game.

The play was supposed to go differently than what it did - there were at the minimum three identifiable failures by Culpepper, Booker, and Brown on that play. If it goes the way it's supposed to, we tie the game. Obviously that didn't go our way.

How was it supposed to go

Ronnie was supposed to take it in, and throw it only if there was no other option. Unfortunately, there was no other option. Ronnie ducked back to pass too quickly, and didn't make enough of the defense bite. At the same time, Culpepper was supposed to block, and only got bogged down allowing Mario Williams to get a hand on the ball, which likely didn't matter because Booker fell in the end zone anyway. All in all, a good play to call, but things went horribly awry after the snap.

It was an excellent play. Ronnie is a good passer. He should have thrown the pass sooner to Booker. Maybe he wouldn't have fallen down. He was wide, wide open.

Thats the problem with the play call on the 3 yard line either roll out C-pep so he has a run throw option or throw a fad to Chambers thats how we beat Buffalo last year Chambers does that great and C-pep used to throw that pass to Moss great also

I'm pretty sure that Welker was the intended recipient of Brown's pass. Booker was off to Brown's left/Welker's right when Brown threw, and both Welker and Booker slipped and fell.

The play worked. The Texans were fooled, and if Welker hadn't slipped, we would've tied it up.

The play was designed to make the defense either bite on the run and spread it out to leave recievers open in the end zone, or have Ronnie run it in if the defense thought it was a trick play and tried to cover the pass. As Saban said, he thought Ronnie was going to run it in, and Ronnie thought he was supposed to pass it. Just a poorly executed play, not a poorly executed call. As is, we wouldn't be having this conversation if they would have converted, so the point is moot now anyway.

I'm sorry, but this play called for too many players to play outside their normal positions...Ronnie is NOT A QB and Culpepper is NOT A LINEMAN.

Again, why is it you call these types of plays given the most dire situations? This is not a play with a high percentage of success! It should be in the back of the playbook and reserved for when you just got the ball back via INT and you are up by 7 and at the goal line!

When we are down, give us a bread and butter play that allow for either RB to catch the ball out of the backfield or give Daunte a chance to find an open reciever.
