I think that's why they put them on the "Started and unsure" part....

Some of the guys on your list who failed, whether they sat or started from day 1, were just not very good. But the guys who succeeded, whether they sat or started day 1, were setup for success. Meaning, their clubs put talent around them to help them grow and succeed as starters.

Garoppolo played in NE, started the 4 games when Brady was suspended, learned behind a hall of fame QB and had a lot of pieces around him to succeed.
Goff had a healthy and very good RB in Gurley, they drafted a WR in the same class as Goff and then drafted Gerald Everett and Cooper Kupp the next year. He already had a solid OL in front of him when he started.
Patrick Mahomes...that team was stacked with talent on offense. It's ridiculous really how much talent was there when Alex Smith was the starter and then Mahomes took over.
Lamar Jackson...another well run club with a lot of talent...two solid TEs and an OL that's probably top 5 in the league.

The list goes on. QBs that succeed usually play for teams that know how to build around the QBs talent. They put weapons around them and a solid OL in place. We have some weapons in Parker and Preston Williams. Not sure of our running game, a huge question mark on our OL (potentially 4 new starters, two of them rookies)...couple that with no mini camps and maybe a shortened training camp, it all adds up to sit the QB for at least the first 4 games IMO.

I think stats in this situation is pointless although I enjoyed looking at them. He is recovering from a rare, serious type of injury as it relates to football, no need to test the water prematurely especially with a piecemeal oline. It’s a unique situation.
See how he does during workouts, get the oline together then defer to Coach Flo. Start him game 1, ridiculous

The instant medical has reaffirmed him being as healthy as possible and he's beating out Fits, let's get him out there. Whenever that is. Maybe it's week one maybe it's week nine but at that point to have him hold a clipboard for one more second of a game is hampering us.

I think this year will be difficult for rookies. We don’t really know how Covid restrictions will impact training camps and preseason. I don’t think Tua will be ready to beat Fitzpatrick out week 1 even if he is clearly the future of the team. If Fitzpatrick plays well enough that we are competing for a wild card spot, I don’t think we will see Tua this year (much like the Mahomes scenario). Otherwise, I expect to see Tua starting at some point because Flores plays the guys that give us the best chance to win.

I can say these 2 are failures.

This seems to be the biggest debate currently..

Personally I feel good about Fitz and what he accomplished last year, with the most depleted roster ive ever seen, he played at a pretty high level relative to the talent, worst oline in football, worst running back unit in the game, the man lead the team in rushing, I believe he gets the chance to play regardless of the medicals on Tua..

knowing what’s kind of man Flores is, taking into account all the variables, including offseason limitations and I think out of respect he does give Fitzpatrick the chance to lead the team..

Being cleared by Doctors doesn’t mean you are at your apex of strength, speed and body composition..So take advantage of this unique situation that we have in phase two of the rebuild.

Tuas projection?, superstar status imo..but I’m not in a hurry to see him until Fitz and the team is out of playoff contention..

Fitz knows this offense very well considering the relationship he’s had with Gailey over the years, let him share the knowledge to the rookie, it can only help him.

Fitz isn’t stupid, we know this, he knew when taking this job that he would be a mentor as well with a young Qb..

Just so happens I think the guys arrow on the field is pointed upwards..I think he’s in the process of taming his weakness to throw into coverage, and has figured out how to cut defenses with his legs as a threat.

I’m excited on two different levels, to see how far Fitz can take the team with huge upgrades of talent across the board.

2nd, to know that we are in a position where we can equip our young Qb with knowledge and time to strengthen the injury, so the uber talented Tua can be at his absolute best both physically and mentally when he takes the field..jmo.

I get it.

But I've have heard the same things about Fitzpatrick since he started for Buffalo.

He is nothing special but will get start because he right now, allows for a honest evaluation and player growth on his side of the ball. Nothing more nothing less.

Agreed. I like Fitz. Sometimes he's amazing but it's just as likely he's chucking interceptions like they are moon pies off a Mardi Gras float. When Tua beats him out he should instantly become the starter.

Fitzpatrick will start and I doubt Tua will play until the coaching and medical staff are convinced his hip is 100% healed. I also don’t see them playing Tua until they feel comfortable will the offensive line. Without much practice time befor the season starts it will likely take the young offensive line much of the season to jel.

With the team still in rebuilding mode in 2020, there is no need to rush Tua. Hopefully he will be able to play toward the end of the season and then be ready to take over as the starter in 2021.

I (and maybe everyone) will disagree with where names are on your list, but that's not my focus. Your list makes a valid point - the variables around the QB matter A LOT. were they drafted by a new HC or a long-term (e.g., Harbaugh/BB)? were they drafted to a winning team? Did their team already have a good ground game? How good was the OL? All these, as your list illustrates, affect the success/failure of a draft pick.

If he plays in any of the preseason games he’s ready and should play. If he doesn’t start that means he couldn’t beat Fitz out. That leads to the mantra of last year, “if he can’t beat Fitz for the starting job he sucks”

We disagree. It sounds like you're projecting your opinions on Flo. No one knows his thinking. You may be right - TT may start game one, although I still think he'll have to CLEARLY beat him out - not barely. Even then, as others say, maybe Flo wants to wait 4-6 game to see how the OL gels. Maybe he'll start RF because the team has confidence in him when the game is on the line. we don't know.

In any case, there are scenarios where TT sits for reasons other than head-to-head comparison on the field.
