Coming out of high school, Luc was one of the most highly sought-after recruits in his class and was one of the top players in the nation. He signed on with Florida State, but things didn't work out with the Seminoles and he transferred to Cincinnati. Between the two schools, Luc didn't do much until a massive senior year in 2014 that saw him rack up 134 tackles, 10 tackles for a loss, six sacks, six forced fumbles and four passes broken up. The 6-foot, 250-pounder was a huge presence for the Bearcats in 2014. However, no team selected Luc in the 2015 NFL Draft.

Sources say the reason that Luc went undrafted was because they felt that Luc lacked instincts for the NFL and was stiff athletically. A few sources agreed with the sentiment that Luc should move to fullback for the NFL. Perhaps if he had more than one big season, he could have proved to be more instinctive or developed more feel before entering the NFL draft, but he was graduated from Cincinnati and out of eligibility.

After falling undrafted, Luc signed with the Miami Dolphins. That was a good decision on the part of Luc and his agent as the Dolphins needed some young talent at linebacker and did not address the position in the early rounds of the 2015 NFL Draft. Luc will have some competition for a roster spot, including fellow undrafted rookie Mike Hull from Penn State. Koa Misi and Jelani Jenkins are set as Miami's starters, but they may not be the long-term answers at their positions. The two or three roster spots for backups appear to be a wide-open competition. The Dolphins have some veteran backups in Spencer Paysinger and Kelvin Sheppard along with second-year players like Jordan Tripp and Jake Knott. Luc will have to star on special teams to stick with Miami, but winning a roster spot or a place on the practice squad seems very feasible with the linebacker-needy Dolphins.

Expecting Practice Sqaud for Luc, but opportunity for more is certainly in place.

How is Jelani Jenkins not a long term answer?
Who writes these stupid articles.

In today's NFL, you have to have some foresight. Glad to see Miami is finally showing some.

Jenkins has 2 years left . . . if he is solid the next 2 years, he'll be looking for 10 million a year . . . why not have a guy ready to go in case we decide to let him walk. We can't pay everybody . . . last year OV was the "future at DE" around this time . . . this year he wants 12 million a season and people are content with letting him walk. Always good to have depth, especially when you've paid the money we have this offseason.

name me a solid wolb not special who makes $10 mil per...there are none unless it's short term terms i'd imagine

you may have to pay jenkins in a couple years 5 and 40 provided he plays at or above the level he did in 2014 going forward...but i doubt it's much more than $8 mil per

Yeah there's no way Jelani is sniffing $10M a year...don't know where that # is coming from considering no 43 OLB is making more than $7M annually. Jelani is a building block, and after another good year we could probably extend him next offseason for around $5M-$6.5M annually. He's not getting paid more than a guy like K.J. Wright's 4/27M deal.

I think Mike Hull has the best shot out of the undrafted linebackers. He has the type of instincts and ability to cover in the passing game that could serve him well behind defensive tackles that can protect him.

What did Koa get? I'd think Jelani would fall somewhere in that range; maybe bump it 20%.

Considering Suh's contract, Wake's, and Grimes some cap savings is going have to be found. Finding and signing perfectly serviceable and cheap 4-3 LB's is going to be a reality.

I knew Jeff Luc when he played high school ball for Treasure coast . Kid had a motor. I'm wishing him the best and hope to see a local boy out there!

When a player is referred to as "not a long term answer" that implies that they are sub par and just keeping a seat warm for the eventual upgrade via the draft or FA. Has nothing to do with a player's potential demands when his contract is up.
Your post applies to EVERY player in the NFL.

Luc is a thumper but lacking NFL movement and coverage skills. I see him as a back up, goal line and special teams guy.
Hull is more of an every down LB. Penn State pedigree too.

I like luc's chances because he is a good Blitzer and is strong against the run, and especially because he strips the ball often which is something Philbin loves. He's got a shot.

Yea, the kids ability to RIP the pig loose is very impressive. I think he plays with bad intentions and for an MLB football assassin not a bad trait.

Maybe the kids game would be better suited to 20 years ago but I get the impression he's a legit football player who will find a way to carve out some NFL playtime.

That said, the FB thing is rather intriguing based on the dudes frame and attack mentality. Too bad there are (effectively) no more FB positions in the NFL.

He's plenty athletic. Hull has the body type to get swallowed up in the line, fighting for air.
