Sorry for cluttering up the page but could someone please explain to me why the Landry block was called a penalty? He didn't lead with his head, just lowered his shoulder and hit him high in the chest. I appreciate Landry's sportsmanship but did he do anything wrong?

Its a tough play but I think they always call that. The defender wasnt even looking and Landry leveled him. The defender has to have a chance to see Landry and defend himself. Landry went high too

I hate that the guy got hurt, but that flag was ridiculous. It's not Landry's fault the guy wasn't looking where he was going.

I think that's the definition of a crackback block I could be wrong on that

Crackback block. You can't hit the defender in the head. Landry's shoulder pad caught the defender under the chin, and basically gave him an uppercut.

Thanks guys. That makes a lot of sense seeing the still frame. Guess I'm just old school. Looked like a good football play at regular speed.

Same reasons for a defenseless receiver in protecting the head, neck and legs. NFL cracked down on these about four years back. Landry will get a fat fine for this one.

What makes it a bad play is that Landry launched into his head w. his shoulder.

Heck of a hit -- but it was dirty. Not sure if Landry meant to hit his head that hard but Landry definitely was wanting to get his attention.

Landry with several big penalties... that first Buffalo TD and field position set up by his taunting. That roughing call might have cost Miami a TD.

On the flip side, however, how good does it feel to have Miami NOT be the team that got bullied when playing Buffalo? The last few years the Buffalo DL has beat up the Miami OL so bad that it was almost criminal. And the Buffalo OL gave years to pass to wide open WRs and massive running lanes, etc.

Miami was the more physical team for once, against Buffalo.

which means the times they are a'changin'

Live, I thought that he caught him in the chest, but that still does look like a head shot. They're calling everything to the head...

Consider it a Hines Ward block. Not long ago it would have been legal. Now it's taking a shot at a defenseless player.

The bad one was the unsportsmanlike Landry got for spinning the ball. Wtf is that about.
That was a bad call. Used to go to a lot of Chargers games and Wes Chandler would spin the ball all the time like that when he made a big catch. Plus Landry spun it when he was out of bounds.
