I read where his contract is only 1 year gaurentee. He gets 8mil signing bonus and 2 mil salary for this year. NO set it up so they can see what his shoulder does this season. He is due a 12mil roster bonus next March. If his shoulder is healthy then they change that to signing bonus to spread out over the next 5 years of the contract. If he bombs out then they just release him. He gets the 10mil no matter which way it goes so he obviously grabbed the money in case the shoulder does not come back to good. I guess in a way you cant blame him for looking out for himself. But I am glad we got Pepper anyway cause we know his cap hit and I like his arm much better.

Well I still think Brees made a mistake by not signing with the Phins. I said it before.....money is still the determining factor when it comes to where players sign.

10 mil just to see if a guy can play. i wish i had that kind of money to throw around...

brees was in it for the money bro. theres no way u can say that you wanna win and go to new orleans over miami. daunte wanted to be here, so im happy we got him.

Actually, there is. The same way any FA we got last season (Holliday, Carter, etc..) could say they came to Miami to win last season. The are in an almost identical situation, except they have more talent on offense than we did last year. That's not to say I would am unhappy about the Daunte trade (I'm coming around), I just think the Brees bashing is rediculous.

Joe Horn even implied Brees was in it for the money..

Sounds like Drew's shoulder is not ready for long term football. Thats why Drew is taking the money now. Am glad Drew did'nt sign with Miami.

That's eaxctly what it sounds like to me. It sounds like Drew is worried about not being able to play again. That is NOT a good sign at all.

i dont see it as a money thing. saban and the doctors must have told the phins something about his shoulder that scared them off

Let's think about it ...

How many players are not in it for the money ... if a ****ty team offered you 10 MIL for 1 year ... very few folks would turn that down ...

IF offers are 'close' then you can decide which team or environment is the better place to play ... but if they aren't close ... $$$$$ wins ...

That is my thoughts exactly. To me, it's the only logical reason for the 180 degree turn we made.

We were wooing Drew Brees and his wife Sunday night and all day Monday (Physicals, wine & dining him and his wife). Monday night; he flew back to Alabama for physical therapy with contract negotiations set to start on Tuesday. On Tuesday, while we are all waiting around to hear news on the contract negotiations with Brees; we get news that we traded our second round pick for Daunte. I think Saban and staff did not like what they heard from their physicians diagnosis of Brees, and decided not to waste anymore time with it and trade for Daunte before the Raiders or some other team decided to make a move to further complicate our negotiations with Daunte.

Brees wanted to sign here, but according to Total Access, the Dolphins were the ones who backed away. Good call imo.

Fins gave Brees a deadline to accept the offer on the table. Condon called our bluff and found out Fins were not bluffing. Saban is not gonna fux around, you either wanna play for the team or not. Im pretty sure Brees is pretty pissed off at his agent atm...

If you were nervous about your ability to perform.....wouldn't you take the highest guarantee? Then...when you crap out...oh well...you have money to retire on :) Smart thinking on Bree's part if he doesn't plan on being around more then a year....if that...

YUP...let's see...who would you rather take?? Daunte who can still throw the DEEP ball or Drew who might not even be able to throw again?...it's not a tough one to figure this out. Alot of people are saying things about Culpepper's knee..but remember a fellow by the name of Willis Mcgahee???? That boy completely had his knee bent backwards and tore everything in there. The results??? Still a powerhorse of a RB...So, even if Daunte isn't 100% he still has that cannon of an arm. Remember Marino??? He was never a mobile QB, but still got the job done in AWESOME fashion. So for everyone out there that is "bummed" that we didn't take Brees...think about it in realistic manners.
