1. inability to stop the run- this ones huge. on first and 2nd down i thought we'd be able to shut down the jets running game but it was anything but. we made thomas jones look like a solid pro running back. 100 plus yards and a td from thomas jones is unacceptable. i can't tell you how many times jones or another rb was in the 2ndary b4 being tackled by yeremiah bell or another 2ndary player. if your 2ndary guys are making a bunch of tackles against the running game your not stopping the run. period. guys showed flashes of shooting the gap and making plays mainly langford but there was too much rbs in the 2nd level of the defense.

2. inability to create consistent pass rush on favre on passing plays- this was my major concern. brett favre didn't quite have tony romo type time against cleveland to see the field but he was for the most part able to look down the field and release the ball. most our pressure came from the inside of the defense and when favre stepped out of the pocket the olbs were no issue. a 3-4 defense cannot survive if the olbs don't create pressure. we don't have a consistent pass rusher on this team i don't care who thinks joey porter is that guy he's not.

3. inability to create separation at wr- darrell revis had ted ginn on lock down. when your best wr is greg camarillo you don't have any wrs. period. 3 catches from the wrs until the middle of the 4th quarter is rediculous. if not for chad penningtons ability to get the ball out and accurate b4 the wrs make their break our wrs wouldn't have caught any balls. completely outclassed by the jets secondary.

4. inability to create running lanes in the running game- the oline was a major dissappointment. none of our olinemen were creating holes. kris jenkins destroyed satele in the center which kills anything pretty much between the tackles.

5. questionable at best offensive play calling- a power running team with wrs that can't get open and we threw the ball all over the lot. 2 goalline plays in a row where the ball is thrown to the corner of the endzone one to bess in the deep corner and the next on a rollout to camarillo on the 2 yard line. run the ball. it seems like dan henning took forever to get the play calls in like he wasn't ready or something. some of the offensive formations had unaccounted for unblocked jets outside the tackles who just blew up penny on pass plays. not a henning fan so far. how about down 13 with 6 minutes in the 4th and still running every pass play off play action like the jets defense were really thinking we may run the ball??? crazy

6. inability to wear out the jets defensive front- this is completely a result of not being able to establish the running game and dictate at the line of scrimmage.

a few trends i think will continue unless something changes:

1. chad pennington while accurate and poised does not have enougn arm to make defenses back off the line of scrimmage. the jets did not respect his ability to beat them over the top one bit. this is gonna severely hamper the running game. however. if not for pennys ability to get the ball out at the right time and with such accuracy i don't think our wrs would catch any balls. they sure don't help him any. it's a bad mix when the qb has no arm and the wrs can't create separation.

having said that b4 we all clamor for chad henne who has the big arm i don't think with this wr core in the regular season he would have much success either. these wrs just don't separate and henne doesn't have pennys anticipation and timeliness on throws yet. key word yet. i could see henne throwing a lot of picks trying to make up for a very poor wr group by throwing into coverage

2. the secondary will be exposed if the olbs don't get more pass rush. qbs will cut us up. period. there's no way i see this one changing this year. our olbs are imo less than average as pass rushers.

3. if matt roth on goalline at olb is the last line of defense keeping the rb from getting to the corner we're gonna have a lot of teams running wide on us. thomas jones is slow relative to other rbs in the league and roth couldn't even turn him inside on the goalline instead he made it look like reggie bush was trying to gain the corner instead of thomas jones. teams will run wide to that side of the field at will on goalline with roth outside.

The dolphins did everything A$$ backwards.. The jets KNEW we would come out running, and we did in the first two plays.

Why not start the game with play action ? What the dolphins did in the 4th quarter moving the ball in the short passing game on 3 drives, they should have done at the start of the game..

This would have kept the Jets defense on the field longer earlier in the game, and would've made the Jets D tired in the late 3rd quarter and the 4th quarter.. THAT was when Miami should have pounded the ball on the jets, later in the game when the Jets D would have been tired.

Basically.....nothing has changed.

These are all the reasons why we almost did the "0-fer" last year...

The only thing that even made it a game was the upgrade at QB with Pennington (which is sad in itself) and a TE that can actually catch.

Our secondary (mainly the safeties) STILL let guys get behind them...unbelievable. We have to draft a top safety (or 2) in the draft among other things.

You have to keep in mind that we're still a young team on both lines...

Totally agree with you about the lack of pass rush and Porter....of course.

We have ZERO playmakers at LB....I see Crowder had 10 tackles after the RB has basically already almost gotten a first down and still cant make any plays....again....nothing new here. He was abused in coverage as well....let this "class clown" walk in free agency....please.

Bell was all over the place and made the defense look better than it was...

They scored more points than us thats why we lost......simple fact for all the bad points you made we were one play away from winning one 18 yard play.......i think our defense has a learning curve because of the 3-4. Stop the bashing it was one game against a loaded team that was put together for a one or two year window we are a very very young team that played our hearts out.

I could list many things but i think the two main reasons were that we werent as a young team ready for the big stage, it was so important for them to find a rythym and their confidence early and like an earlier poster said, we came out running on both 1st and 2nd down, the 2nd reason was Brett Farve, plain and simple, any other qb in the league we probably win that game.

1-Our "Run" game was brutal.
2-We started off slow (this was expected IMO).
3-Our secondary on that 4th and long T.D should all be taken out and shot!
4-The refs couldn't wait to get home and watch the "Favre" highlights.
5-Poor goal-line play calling (as usual!)
As much as I can't stand Pennington,we did not lose this game because of our Q.B.

bad points??? i just basically said why we lost. i'm not saying this team hasn't improved.

i'm not bashing anyone by the way. you would know if i was. like this next post.

i agree on crowder. the guy makes all his plays when the games matter 5 plus positive yards for the offense downfield. exposed in coverage also. an upgrade here is very much needed. the front 3 is better the lbs gotta come up and make stops in the running game.

You're pretty much right. When I watched RB the last couple of years and RW when he played, the one thing I noticed is that they get better as the game goes on. We abandoned the run to soon in my opinion.

the reason we lost this game is because we have the worst wr corp ive ever seen on the field...This is no doubt the biggest weakness on this team.

I agree with your assessment. I was particularly disappointed with our Oline. I have been looking forward to the Dolphins having an azz kicking DOMINANT Oline for years and years. I hope 2008 is finally going to be THE year we have that good Oline.

I'm starting to believe the Miami press about our receivers now. Our receivers coach needs to work a lot harder with that group. I want "the light to come on" for those guys ... especially Ted Ginn. Hopefully, Sparano & Co. are on the case and they are going to get things turned around. I definitely don't want to be bummed out about the Dolphins like I was last year again. That was not fun at all.
