The simple reason why we need a QB NOW instead of looking at the BPA is quite simple...

And the reason is exactly why it will be hard to get Quinn at #9

The reasons are the same...... The reason is that a lot of people picking before us NEED a QB. Why.....? Because without a top-tier QB you cannot win, simple as that. So many teams in front of us are salivating for a QB, and they just happen to be the WORST teams in the League.

Therefore......it is no coincidence that having a low-level QB is a sure-fire way of ending up in the basement rankings every year.

Just look at those picking after us, i.e those with better season-ending records. They have, on average, more solid QB's. You can do great things with great defences, RB's etc. But you cannot win consistently without a good QB. You just CANNOT.

A great QB can overshadow, to a point, many glaring needs on your team. But you will not see a team that wins a lot with great players but a glaring hole at the QB position.

You cannot overemphasize the importance of a star in the position that handles the ball on every offensive play.

Our problem throughout the years is that we became spoilt with Marino and felt that somehow, somewhere, another great QB would land in our hands....why?......because we are Miami and we DESERVE it to be so.

Well, fellow fans, we made our own bed and now we have been lying in it for many years. If you want a good shot at a franchise QB then you have to PAY THE PRICE. So stop giving me all of this BPA at #9 B.S. Everybody wants to go to Heaven, but nobody wants to Die.

So, fellow Fin-Lovers, lets ante up for once.....pay the price....pull the trigger and do what we have to do to get who Cam thinks has a good chance to lead us for the next decade.

I am going to go ahead and disprove your whole "without a top tier quarterback you can't win" argument with two words:

Rex Grossman

Sorry, one QB, whatever you make of him, does not make a case study.

You show me one Rex, and I will show you 1,000 opposite examples.

And, I will remind you that Rex was picked in the first round.

By the way, do you think that the Bears could win with Joey at the helm?

:sidelol:

Not to sound rude or anything, but that is pretty obvious. QB is the most important position on the field and most, but not all, good teams have a competent signal caller under center.

I agree that we need to address our QB situation but if Russell and Quinn go in the top 3 theres not a whole lot we can do other than reach for one of the second tier QB's earlier than we should.

You are not rude, you made a great point. If Russell goes and the Quinn goes, then picking the next in line at #9 IS a reach. But it all depends on who Cam thinks is our franchise qb. Then you, as coach, have to play the VERY DELICATE game of getting who you want, WHEN you want.

It is a high-stakes poker game. You sit, you watch, you target, you sweat...

Then you pull the trigger when the time is right and be prepared to pay the price when you do so.

FIrst of all just because a quarterback was drafted in the first round does not make him automatically good!

Second Grossman played lights out some games...I don't know if I would say lights out but I do know that he had 3 games where his QB rating was under 10!!!!!!!

Third, drafting a QB doesnt have to be done in the first round! There is just as much risk drafting one there as there is anywhere else in the draft. Probably moreso because for every Manning there is a Leaf! Odds are that either Russell or Quinn is going to be this year's Leaf!

What if Culpepper gets well? Seriously, the injury that CPEP sustained is very similar to McGahee and it took Willis 2 years to recover. Most ACL injuries take 2 years for the player to regain the same strength they had before. (Gore, James, Jamal Lewis) and they were just ACL'S. CPEP tore 3 ligaments. (Of course rushing back the way he did was the hindsight of stupidity) What if CPEP AGREED TO a major contract restructuring? At his current salary, Daunte's a huge injury albatross hanging over our necks, but it's always an option to give him an option before he becomes an afterthought.

Therefore......it is no coincidence that having a low-level QB is a sure-fire way of ending up in the basement rankings every year.

If you look at the teams that are in the "basement rankings" this year they are teams that have used high picks on QBs....its not because they failed to use picks on QBs. Arizona has Leinart (1st round), Cleveland has Charlie Frye (3rd round), Minnesota has Tarvarius Jackson (2nd round), Atlanta has Vick (1st round), TB has Simms (3rd round)....these teams all draft QBs and they are still in the cellar...there are as many busts at quarterback as are successes.

Culpepper was the product of being able to throw the deep ball to Moss in Minnesota without having to read a defense. He has a very acute disability when it comes to reading defenses. I didn't want him last year and I really don't want him this year!
