It has taken me a few days to post, I was at the Buffalo game this past Sunday, it was cold, miserable, and to make matters worse the phins fell to pieces.
I happen to be sitting on the 20 yard line behind the Bills bench, (the endzone Lee Evans pushed off and scored in), and many things were going through my mind.
Was it me or did I just see Randy Mcmichael drop several Passes
Did I just see Miami pass up an opportunity to kick a 37 yard field goal?
Oh and by the way didn't ESPN the Magazine just write an article in regards to going for 4th down, and listing Coach Nick Saban as the most conservative coach in the NFL, or the least Aggressive?
Seriously this is what I was thinking, I was also thinking, is Jason Taylor our only legitimate playmaker?
I was so upset and frustrated (I went with 1 other Miami fan and 6 Bills fans), I wanted to yell at the team, berate the offense for looking so freaking lethargic, but it wasn't just the offense, the special teams looked lethargic as well.
So instead of yelling at the team and ridiculing them, for making me sit through this absolultely terrible day to watch them play with no heart, I yelled at coach saban saying "take the bama job Nick", "you suck saban", I mean the guy goes for 4th down in the 1st Quarter, then in the 3rd and 4th quarter, he punts the ball when we are down 14-0 or 21-0, only to call a Time out in the 4th quarter with 5 mintues to go, seriously he was bad on Sunday as well as his team.
I'm not sure why I yelled at Saban, I just felt like he was the easiest target.
So what is my point?
My point is after seeing what I saw 2 things struck me, first of all, we should never have been in a position to have to win out to make the playoffs, this is the first time in a long time that the NFL has been nice enough to give us an easy schedule early on , and we blew it. Just like we may have blown it by Trading for CPEP and not picking up Brees, just like we blew it when Ricky was suspended again. This team flat out blew it.
But I knew this I knew that we had way to many new faces on Both sides of the ball, with new coordinators to be effective early on, I was hoping that CPEP could carry this team along with a pass rush that could hide the fact that our secondary was completely new, neither happened, we were done.
So what do we have to look forward to?
I will tell you that I hope we lose the next 2 games, as I certainly beleive that if we do it will put us in the top 10 draft position, which we should have been in last year if not for RICKY WILLIAMS carrying us to 6 wins in a row. Unfortunately unlike last year which might have been one of the most talent laden drafts in over a decade this year proves to be a weak one.
I hope that this team excersises restraint in the offseason, I know you all think im nuts right, we should just blow all our cash this offseason, but I disagree, resign some of our key players, look to trade our headcases (chambers, mcmichael), and be fiscally conservative for 1 more year, no we should not, its time to build via the draft.
Time to be creative via acquiring draft picks Nick/Rany, this team was so good for so long up until 2003 (yes even though we haven't gone to the playoffs since 2000, we still had winning records), we have had an NFL low 3 losing seasons, some of you think that that is a testament to our greatness, I would argue that our mediocrity has prevented us from building a championship team.
So to All you phin fans out their, I say, lets go down in flames, lose out, and be conservative with our money this year, perhaps sign one or 2 big time free agents, and make a point to become aggressive via the draft, because IMO to build a team like the BEARS, or the SEAHAWKS, or the COLTS, or the PATRIOTS, teams that have been good for a while, most of them have done so via the draft very little via free agency.
Sometimes it takes a while to build a team, but I would rather have a young team, than a team filled with overpaid old guys.
I feel better now, I'm out!
