First of all stop the madness! It seems like some people care more about the draft then about the season actually hoping for another losing season so we can take a shot at some unknown hyped college player who could just as easily bust as make any real impact.

Check it out, we had a really good off season this year. In fact, we will win 6 or more games this year because of the following reasons:

Defense:

1. Scheme. We will play a 3-4 scheme this year and we have the personnel to do it. JT will be an outstanding pass rushing linebacker in this scheme and it's a scheme that Joey Porter really belongs in.

2. Our front 7 has significantly improved, therefore we will stop the run this year. With the additions of Ferguson, Starks, Merling, Akin Ayodele, Reggie Torbor, to go along with Crowder, JT, Vonnie Holiday, and Joey Porter we will stop the run and get pressure on the Quarterback. Rodirique Wright also has alot of potential, although I think Matt Roth may be hard pressed to keep his job with the competition that is going to be there. I think our front 7 is now the strength of this team once again.

3. Our secondary isn't as bad as people think. Could we use another really fast corner with a good nose for the ball? Of course we could, however, with the additions of Chris Crocker (Safety), the return of Jerimiah Bell, and with Jason Allen having another year under his belt, I think our secondary will be solid against the run and adequate against the pass.

We will stop the run this year and I predict that we will have a top 10 defense once again. You can turn a defense around pretty quickly and I think the Front office has done that with all of the Free Agent and draft pick additions.

Offense:

1. O-Line. Bottom line (pardon the pun) is that this line is already better than it was last year. We are going to knock people off of the ball with Jake Long, Justin Smiley, Samson Satele, Vernon Carey, and probably Shawn Murphy. The only question mark is that guard position where we also just released Mormino, however, guard is probably the easiest position to stock on the line and I think we have some good competition there not to mention the fact that this is Sparano's strength. As for Jake Long being a rookie, he will do just fine, and one way to take the wind out of the sails of some of those pass rushers is to run right at em and knock them on their butts, and we will do that early and often I predict.

2. Running Back. I believe Ricky Williams will be our starting Running back, because especially for a running back, it can take time to come back from a torn acl, so I see Ronnie contributing, but perhaps being brought back slowly. Even still, he should still be able to contribute, and I like this new fellow Jalen Parmalee. At 5 '11 225, he'll fit right in. We will have a power running game this season and we have a solid stable of backs.

3. Receiver. Okay, let's not sugar coat this one, or receiver corps doesn't keep any opposing Defensive coordinators up late at night. In fact, it is IMHO without a doubt the weakest area on our football team. There is small reason for optimism in that Ted Ginn will be better this year and has been by all reports working really hard during the off season. Also, the addition of the Tight end Faisano is an upgrade over David Martin in both the running and passing game. The addition of Ernest Wilford a big target who is solid if unspectacular to help move the chains.

4. Quarterback. This is going to be John Beck. Chad Henne is not ready and will not be able to overcome Beck's lead of one whole season and two off seasons. McCown has proven to be nothing but a journeyman Backup, so I really think Beck will end up winning this battle for this year at least, and he has also by all accounts been working his arse off. With improved line play, and a solid running game, whoever the QB is should have an opportunity to roll out alot and do some play action passing to take advantage of the 8 men opposing teams will put in the box against us to stop Ricky Williams and co.. Long and short of it, is that our QB should be in a better position to succeed in managing the game and the offense, which this year, considering the lack of depth and talent at the offensive skill positions is all we can really ask for.

Long and short of it, I believe we will have a good running game this year, which will eat up the clock and keep our defense fresh and allow our QB a better chance to succeed. It will be interesting to see if Beck can bounce back from his disastarous rookie campaign and take some significant strides this year. If he can, then this team will be a whole lot better than people think.

Special Teams:

This is an area where we really sucked last year. Many of the additions on this team (e.g. Torbor, Ayodele, etc.) will also significantly upgrade our special teams. This will Give Ginn more opportunities to take it to the house and leave our defense and offense with better field position. This is a basic area that if it was better last year might have been responsible for us losing at least a couple of games.

Schedule:

We have a much easier schedule this year.

Coaching: We have upgraded our coaching staff significantly from last year as well, which has also instilled a different attitude in our players. I think they believe they can win, whereas last year, I'm not sure they did.

Basically, we lost a number of games for a number of reasons by 3 points or even a touchdown or less. I think we've gone back to the basics, and will be much more competitive then many people realize, and best of all, we have the element of surprise, no one will see us coming. So, here it is, my prediction for the season: 8-8, which by the way would match what Parcells did after taking over the Jets in his first year in which they had gone 1-15 previously.

Nice write up I agree with most of your points good job...

However, Ronnie Brown is our starting RB. RW is our backup.

Wr's Wilford will surprise many he is a decent receiver and I believe Ginn will come out more this year than last.

i really hope you're right on everything you just posted, but we shall see once the season gets under way.

That's going to depend upon how Ronnie comes back from his injury, if he comes back strong, then so much the better, if not, then I would suspect Ricky might end up being the starter. Either way, it's not a bad situation. Personally, I like Ronnie Brown alot and feel like he really was starting to bust out last year before his injury. But, these knee injuries are tough for a running back

I think if the coaches thought there was a chance Brown wouldn't be able to play we would of already picked up another back. RW IMO will not be able to handle a load and with the trading of Booker to the Eagles it tells me Parcells & Co. are happy with Brown's rehab.

Then again I'm just speculating here....when training camp comes if Brown is not as far a long as the coaches want I could see more of RW & S. Alexander tandem holding the load for Brown. (Since Alexander is still out there I believe)

Age and being out of the game makes me think any resemblence of the RW of old is gone.

I have no problems with optimism, although, even for the off season, where everything we think may happen is inherently conjecture (anything is possible, maybe Beck and our other Mormons will inspire all the top players of opposing teams with the story of the Angel Moroni appearing to Joseph Smith, leading to them taking time from football to pray and perhaps even go on a mission), considering how many rookies, new and young players who haven't proven themselves we have on the roster, we are deep in question mark territory.

Still, you did a bang up job presenting a more positive scenario. Someone could also present a pessimistic picture with as much basis though. Personally, I am also optimistic but, with the last 6 years of crap, I am waiting before I make any utterances guaranteeing anything.

As an aside, I am not sure if we got a coaching upgrade (I am not saying we should have kept Cameron!), we have a total rookie HC coming off being an OL coach. I think that is the biggest and most important question mark, beyond even QB. If our winning % is significantly higher (of course every win will count as 100% relative to last year :boohoo:), I will see it as indicative of positive change in coaching and scouting.

Finally, I know we lost a lot of close games last year, but our team is so different from top to bottom that I have a hard time assuming anything about our chances of improvement other than a) a general feeling that we made some positive changes in personnel and b) we can't be worse can we?

I agree with almost everything posted. The defensive front seven will do a much better job stopping the run as well as getting to the the QB which will only help our secondary. Our special teams have also significantly been upgraded, and don't even get me started on the coaching staff. Even Saban could have won 4 games with that team last year. The areas of concern I have are on the offensive side of the ball. With our gurards will Smiley be able to get through the season healthy and will one of our draft picks be able to take hold of the opportunity. Personally I hope they bring a veteran into training camp just incase they can't. We know what we are getting in the receivers with Willford but will Ginn and Fasano have the breakout seasons we are hoping for, and can Bess or Hagan step up to be the third. Lastly the QB, a team can only go as far as he can lead them. I dont expect to see anything new from McCown, so can Beck get used to the speed of the game and not have so many turnovers (praying this will happen). I really don't see Henne ready to play until next year, but I would much rather have him take his lumps this year if Beck can't get the job done. Im predicting between a 5-11 and 8-8 season. The improved defense, special teams, and coaching should hopefully win us at least 3 games the rest is depending on the offense.

I agree with most everything except QB of course. McCown will be our QB this year.

But, youre right. I like the defense to be MUCH improved from last season. I think it might take them a while to gel, but after 4-6 games I look for our defense to begin to really click and put us in every game. The secondary is really underrated and the front 7 should be at least above avg. and will improve over time with the youngsters.

Offensively, I look for it to be kinda boring this year with the lack of talent at WR. I think we will try and run ALOT and keep ourselves in games as long as the defense lets us and try and make some big plays here and there with the play action passing game. If we can sustain some drives with some big 3rd downs(Wilford could be key in this), then we should score enough points to win at least 6 games if not more when the defense does its job. I think BP will grind everything he can out of Ricky for two more years, while preserving Ronnie for bigger things in the future(something I suggested last season but, everyone was concerned about rushing titles instead of world titles in the future). I look for all of the backs to get plenty of work.

Special teams will be MUCH improved as well. We wont make mistakes that cost us games like last year vs. the Jets(hopefully).

Who really cares how many games someone THINKS we are gonna win?? If this is a thread where you are putting up money to back your statements then they would be worth something. If not then what's the point, all it means is this is your wish list.
Look, I am not attacking you, I like your unrealistic dreams, but now let's look at facts.
1. We were every bit as bad as our record last year. Probably should have been 0-16
2. We have HUGE questions at QB. Name another team that would change places with our qb situ.
3. Our best defensive game changer will be playing in Dallas this year.
4. We have hands down the worst WR core in the NFL. Booker, who we let go, would be our best WR right now.
5. Our best offensive player is coming off a huge injury that takes usually two years to fully recover.
6. Our OL is coming together on paper, but is still at least one player and 1-2 yrs from being above average.
7. And most important is we now have a losing mindset. This is not something to over look. We have not made the playoffs since most of these players have been pros. The Dolphins are not thought of as winners as they once were. This is something that gives opponnents confidence and our players the idea that if the game is close we will find a way to lose. This has to change, and NEVER does it change overnight. Add to all of this that we have a new first time coach that may or may not be a good HC and it is hard to imagine this team winning more than 4-5 games this year even if things go perfect. If you want to make a side wager of $100.00 or so with 6 being the over/under pm me. Otherwise let's all be patient, hope we are headed in the right direction, and try to look at our team like others around the league would see us. "Rome was not built in a day"

1. We were every bit as bad as our record last year. Probably should have been 0-16 We could have won 2-3 not including Bmore
2. We have HUGE questions at QB. Name another team that would change places with our qb situ. Barfalo and the Jets to name 2

You talk about the dud that didnt even play last year :sidelol:

No one would trade Ginn for Booker so your wrong
5. Our best offensive player is coming off a huge injury that takes usually two years to fully recover.
We do have Ricky who has taken time off before and looked pretty good and drafted two young smashers j in case
6. Our OL is coming together on paper, but is still at least one player and 1-2 yrs from being above average.
Rookie Lineman have shown they dont need 2 years
7. And most important is we now have a losing mindset. This is not something to over look. We have not made the playoffs since most of these players have been pros.
Bill Parcells PERIOD

If you want to make a side wager of $100.00
DONE!!

I will take your bet.

Here's the deal, this is a completely different team than last year, full stop. What happened last year was just that, last year, we have new starters all over on both sides of the ball and we are a bigger football team, and we have Bill Parcells and his organization and system which has proven to work. This team doesn't have a losing mindset right now.

I wrote this thread in response to another thread that was posted earlier that suggested that the poster wanted us to win fewer than 6 games so that we could once again pick in the top 10 in next years draft. I thought that was ludicrous, and when I began thinking about things I wanted to say to that person I decided instead to just post this thread. I do believe in the things that I said, at this point until the pads are on, it is speculation. However, I will take your bet. $100 that we will win 6 games or more this season. Let's see if you're serious...

2. We have HUGE questions at QB. Name another team that would change places with our qb situ. Barfalo and the Jets to name 2, Maybe the JETS I think Buffalo is pretty happy with Edwards
3. Our best defensive game changer will be playing in Dallas this year.

4. We have hands down the worst WR core in the NFL. Booker, who we let go, would be our best WR right now.
No one would trade Ginn for Booker so your wrong, And that's because no one would trade away a second year player for guy who's in the twilight of his career!
5. Our best offensive player is coming off a huge injury that takes usually two years to fully recover.
We do have Ricky who has taken time off before and looked pretty good and drafted two young smashers j in case, Ricky may be done. He looked bad in Cananda and he also got hurt, got hurt last year, starting to look as acccident prone as Ronnie.
6. Our OL is coming together on paper, but is still at least one player and 1-2 yrs from being above average.
Rookie Lineman have shown they dont need 2 years, That really depends on what rookie's you draft. Hope your right!
7. And most important is we now have a losing mindset. This is not something to over look. We have not made the playoffs since most of these players have been pros.
Bill Parcells PERIOD, Can't argue with that one!

The problems is we aren't the only team that improved in the offseason. It wouldn't be out the question we get swept in our division!
