Can someone tell why we were so bad against the run? I haven't watched all the games but the ones I did see , our defense was just bad across the board with the exception of a few spots like jones, suh etc. I went the San Diego game when they played and wow our Mlb were awful, I couldn't point out 1 thing is was a multitude of things. Or maybe I just answered my own question.

Easy the DTs are very weak at the POA. Mitchel sucks, and the KMart linebackers didn't help at all. Suh needs help ! He needs a "space eater" so he doesn't get double teamed.

Same reason we sucked against the run the year before...people seem to forget how awful this unit has been against the run the last TWO years.

Coyle's scheme had a lot to do with it, but you can't dismiss the bad personnel either. Both NT's are poor run defenders and neither demand 2x team. OV had trouble setting the edge and the LB play was atrocious. Jones had a great year for us but his tackle numbers also benefited from having to clean up the mess that everyone else was making.

Having what is probably the worst LB corps in the NFL might have something to do with it....

We need a new LB group. Misi isn't the answer he has been weak and injured every year. We need a big time MLB flying around making plays.

Philbin inherited a Top 5 Rushing Defense. In his first year he and Coyle changed schemes and they dropped in the rankings. In the second year Ireland swapped LBs (Ellerbee and Wheeler in, Dansby and Burnett out) and they dropped further in the rankings. Plus, Philbin gutted the secondary of decent talent. After 4 years of Philbin and his staff, the ONLY improvement was the WR corps. EVERY other part of the team sucks. Everything that was done to this team under Philbin needs to be undone if they want to be successful... and that includes changing to a real offense instead of some sissy college style offense and I'd like to see them go back to a defense similar to what they had before Coyle changed everything. But, they're going to keep the 4-3 headed by yet another Bengals Secondary Coach.

Maybe the scheme or coaching was bad,

I don't know how many times IN EVERY GAME I saw linebackers standing right behind the DTs instead of in the gaps.

I don't understand how Kelvin Shepard could play so well in the last game after looking so bad in the preseason and most of the season.
