Now that it is virtually certain Saban is gone ...

Here's a wild-card option for a new coach. Ron Rivera, Bears Defensive Coordinator. Rivera played for the Bears as an OLB. He has been an assistant for some time - spent 5 years under Jimmie Johnson at Philadelphia and now has coached under Lovie Smith as the DC at Chicago for the past 3 years.

He is a young guy who will be aggressive and smart. He is a former pro player so he'll have a connection there. And, he has a very good pedigree. The defense would not change dramatically but would continue to offer good blitz packages that can be mixed in.

He could potentially bring some toughness to the team - both of the teams he has coached for have been noted for physical play.

That's the kind of coach we need, I believe (A Bill Cowher type). Someone who can make the Dolphins a physically tough team (ala the Steelers, Bears, etc) on both sides of the ball. Not sure if Rivera is the one, but he has a pedigree.

Not another freaking D coordinator!

I agree...we need some offensive help in a big way and another D Coordinator just isn't gonna get it done. Cam Cameron or Ken Wisinhunt are my top 2 on the wish list. But I think that Capers may end up getting the nod from WH....

I think Ron Rivera is an excellent candidate.

Just b/c you get a DC or OC doesn't mean that your D or O will improve. Fassell was an offensive guru and his O's stunk, Billick was an offensive guru and his O's stunk, Herm was a defensive guy and his D's weren't great here in NY.

Whoever the new coach is, I just hope Wayne takes his time in naming the new coach and just doesn't promote Capers or Mularky on a whim.

no college coaches

and I want a young NFL assistant. not one of the same old re-treds that just go from job to job getting fired from job to job

My wish list.

1. Charlie Wies
2. Norm Chow
3. Marioucci (sp?)

As long as a good GM and OC are in place...

Rivera might be a fine choice...certainly better than the Capers, Mularkey, Mora, Mariucci retreads.

My list right now looks like this.....

1. Cameron
2. Whisenhunt
3. Rivera

PHINZ RULE!!!!!

I like these. I also hope they look at other candidates. If we went with # 1 or 2, I'd like to see them try to keep the D in the hands of Dom Capers. That would really be essential. I think the D would like that also.

Capers is not a bad in-house candidate, but his head coaching stints have both ended in failure.

I definitely do not want Bates. His defensive schemes are very "vanilla" and do not put pressure on the opponents offense - too much read and react and that is passe. I also think Bates is connected to the past that ended badly and the Dolphins need to move on.

Good point NY. Too many fans dont realize that just because you bring in an O coord for a coach, it doesnt mean youll have no D or a D coord as coach that youll have no help on the offensive side of the ball. Billick was a perfect example, known for his unreal offensive playcalling/playbook etc and the Ravens have NEVER won with big time scoring, and most of his year well below average offense, but have had GREAT defense and won a SB because of it. And Fassel as well, his offenses SUCKED as head coach. I would love Rivera, other than Weiss but he wont be leaving ND, and just because we brought in Rivera it would not mean that we will have no better of an offense.

BTW-= PLEASE no Mariucci!!!!!

Right now, I think my list is:

1) Rivera
2) Ken Wisenhunt/Bob Bratkowski/Cam Cameron/Norm Chow (tie)
