We've all talked about who we think the Dolphins will draft at #14. But, who is a wildcard player that hasn't been discussed that may end up being the pick?

For me, that player is Alvin "Bud" Dupree. It's a great year for edge rushers and Dupree is maybe the most intriguing of the bunch. Mike Mayock has him as #5 on his list of edge rushers so there's a good chance Dupree is sitting there at #14. His combine numbers are off the chart supporting the explosion and speed he shows on the field. That said, I would be a little concerned that the Miami coaching staff wouldn't know where to use him (OLB or DE). He also may not have the immediate impact that some other players might.

A couple of other points on getting a pass rusher. Cam Wake is 32, Dion Jordan is still more hope than production and the Dolphins could end up dealing him to Philly, Olivier Vernon wants $10 million on his next contract. Finally, pressuring Tom Brady is the best game plan for beating the Patriots.

Thoughts?

IMO, Landon Collins, Safety, a savage THUMPER!!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Pl6_FcMQfQ
I could definitely see that. He seems to be all over the board regarding where mocks have him. He is a very good player, but I do doubt BPA at that spot. Would fill a big need, though.

Erik Armstead. I'm not sure he gets there though.
I don't know if it's because of Dion Jordan, but Oregon players do concern me a bit. Armstead seems more potential than production at this point. Obviously, he gives a team nice versatility being able to play inside or on the edge. I think with Miami his position would be DT.

he also is raw and will need work... but do we really need a 5 tech DE at this time in the first round?

safety wise Collins is the only guy I would want... but he does struggle holding the CF in coverage and overall range. he is a run stuffer and a good one in the box, but for our secondary i am not sure if he is the greatest fit with Jones back there already at this time.

Definitely one of the pass rushers. Wouldn't surprise me if we took Arik Armstead. Vernon will be a free agent, and Wake will be 34 with a high salary. Need to prepare for potential life without them.

I don't see us drafting a strong safety....we need a free safety.

I think Todd Gurley could be a wild card. 14 is high for a runningback coming off an AcL but he's a special talent

Interesting. Gurley was my second choice behind Dupree. I think that is more of a possibility than people think. Another player who I think is a possibility is Jaelen Strong.

Let me be clear, I don't think Miami actually takes Armstead even if he's available, but the question was about dark horse candidates and all things considered, he's one that makes a little sense. You'd have to see why he fell (I think he's mocking in the top ten right now), who was taken instead, and who is still available. For example, let's say teams decide RB is a good option with 2 terrific options and both Gurley and Gordon go early. Armstead falls and someone else....a WR? Landon Collins? Shelton? I'd probably take one of those positions before Armstead anyway. I'd love to pair Collins with Jones (or previous mentioned Shaq Thompson with Jones). Could you imagine Suh + Shelton on the interior? What a D line.

I'd be more surprised by Dupree being available at 14 than Miami drafting him if he is there at 14. With our interest in Beasley, it's clear that pass rusher is on our radar, and Dupree is right there with any edge player in the draft. He's easily the rarest talent in the group.
