I believe there are some guys who may surprise and exceed the expectations of the fan base. Here are some of them and why I think so:
Q. Moses - OLB - While moving outside may involve some excessive homework, in Bill's defense I expect he can be a little more free and be allowed to rush unabated. The guy is still 6-6 and big enough to push aside tes and rbs. And he showed promise and the fact the light might have come on after being waived twice last year. He has top three round pick talent.
Reggie Torbor - LB - This guy brings some versatility to the linebacker position in a 3-4 defense, and while he didn't obviously standout last year when in a starting role, he didn't make noticeable mistakes either. He is talented enough to play any where among all the linebacker positions in a 3-4 defense.
Charlie Anderson - OLB - Here is a guy that may be ready to move beyond special teams to play a key role. He has the measures to play OLB in the 3-4. There have been some observations through the few camp reports that he is being looked at to contribute on the outside. If Taylor is on the team, this could be an interesting mentoring opportunity for Anderson, as well as Moses and maybe Merling if he is indeed considered more an OLB than a DE.
Murphy and Thomas - OG - I think the Dolphins have high expectations for each of these guys. McKinney is nothing more than a one year plug to allow some development for these two.
Julius Wilson and Lionel Dotson - these are my wildcards of wildcards. There is a gut feeling here that these two may surprise. Unless there is a flurry of activity prior to training camp, the Dolphins have been noticeably inactive in getting additional tackles on this team. It was recently noted by a beat writer of the Dolphins that Wilson looked in great shape. While there have been a number of critics of Wilson, he was actually considered the best run blocking OT in the draft last year (Sporting News I believe). It was obvious he was overwhelmed last year, but next to wr, OL is one of the toughest positions to develop into.
There are more on this list to come, but these stood out to me at the time.
