Wildcat <<<<<<<< conventional offense

my general opinion on the wildcat is that it initially was an attempt to enhance a poor rushing offence in 2008 ... then, with all the success it had, it not only took a bigger place in our playbook, but it generated interest from fans, other teams' fans that is !

where i live, i'd say the general interest to watch dolphins football raised considerably through the last 2 years... and for Ross, that means $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ , $$ ! and this is what it's all about... a business...

we're still darn good using it, but the biggest thing we're gaining with the wildcat is the public's attention (more money, more primetime games, etc.)

Very interesting thought JT and you're right it started as a way to jump start a stagnant offense. The early success got the momentum going and teams were struggling against it. But the Saints did a good job of stopping it and laid the blue print how best to stop it. So.......Henning started getting cute with options, reverses, etc.. instead of relying on good old smash mouth football, which this team is being built for.

With the injury to Ronnie, we got to see what I hope is the drastic reduction in gadgets and gimmicks to move the football. It was nice to get back to more conventional means of moving the football against the Panthers and quite honestly, pounding the s**t out of them as this team is designed to do.

No the WC is not dead nor will it completely go away I am afraid, but it's better days have passed. Amen!

I think you play the game that is best suited for your personell. We were in the middle of a talent drain and the wc was a way to get the most out of two of our top five players on O. To say that one formation is altogether better than another is to neglect the relevancy of the situation. Is having 4 WRs on the field better than a conventional offense? Not if u have dan marino, clayton, duper, crash jenson etc.

Ronnie's absence will have a profound affect on how often we go to the wc and how successful we are with it.

I like how you came to that reasoning, but I personally cant see a formation being implemented by coaches just for the sole purpose of generating income and revenue, especially with Parcell's as head of Football Operations.

Always like to hear conspiracy theories though.

i wouldn't call the WildCat inferior per se. it's pretty effective. however, there's a limited number of plays you can run out of it. there's a lot more plays out of "conventional" sets. anyway, IMO the WildCat is even more dangerous now that we've proven we can move the ball out of a "conventional" offense. it's no longer a necessity. we can really put defenses on their heels with timely use of the WildCat now.

The wildcat has its place in our offense but its nice to see the ball moving in the conventional offense.

I never felt we were a Wildcat first team. we just put it in when we needed a spark or the coaches wanted to take the QB off the field and talk to him with out using a time out.

Wildcat should only be used in goalline situations and when the base offense is in a slump. I was waiting for them to use the Wildcat only when needed, and they did. Hopefully we continue to limit the Wildcat, rather than using it at the worst possible times.
