Speaking of veteran receivers, Ernest Wilford is still around, and I previously predicted he'd make it to training camp. However, this team's cost efficient approach to free agency leads me to believe they don't plan to spend all of their available funds, which is estimated at $18 million. That means there is a possibility the Dolphins could swallow the $1.5 million in cap space it would cost the franchise to release Wilford in 2009.
However, that would be an admittance of poor judgment on the Trifecta's part, which rarely ever happens in the NFL. If Wilford is cut before the summer he'll cost team owners Stephen Ross and H. Wayne Huizenga $2,333,333 per catch (three), or $280,000 per yard (25) he contributed last season.
What's puzzling about Wilford is I keep hearing whispers from the Dolphins about his questionable work ethic. Yet, anyone associated with the Jaguars, which might scoop him up when/if he gets RELEASED, will tell you he was one of that franchise's hardest workers, no question. They certainly liked him a lot better than Jerry Porter, their high price free agent, whom I was told was a cancer in their locker room.
That's why you have to be careful which "diva receiva" you add to a team.
It'll be interesting to see if the Dolphins give Wilford an opportunity to redeem himself at training camp, or value the message his release will spend. I say they bring him back to training camp and have Wilford compete with the incoming rookies for playing time because you can never have enough receivers to run routes during two-a-days. Plus, the money has already been spent....

Being as Miami just took a 2.5 Mill Cap Hit after releaseing Holliday I could see us cutting Wilford who would cost 1.5 and they can take 4.o mill cap hit and get it over with. All this cutting could mean Miami is trying to become players again in FA.
Leigh Bodden, Jabari Greer, Bryant Mcfadden and Ronald Bartell come to mind.
