Speaking of veteran receivers, Ernest Wilford is still around, and I previously predicted he'd make it to training camp. However, this team's cost efficient approach to free agency leads me to believe they don't plan to spend all of their available funds, which is estimated at $18 million. That means there is a possibility the Dolphins could swallow the $1.5 million in cap space it would cost the franchise to release Wilford in 2009.

However, that would be an admittance of poor judgment on the Trifecta's part, which rarely ever happens in the NFL. If Wilford is cut before the summer he'll cost team owners Stephen Ross and H. Wayne Huizenga $2,333,333 per catch (three), or $280,000 per yard (25) he contributed last season.

What's puzzling about Wilford is I keep hearing whispers from the Dolphins about his questionable work ethic. Yet, anyone associated with the Jaguars, which might scoop him up when/if he gets RELEASED, will tell you he was one of that franchise's hardest workers, no question. They certainly liked him a lot better than Jerry Porter, their high price free agent, whom I was told was a cancer in their locker room.

That's why you have to be careful which "diva receiva" you add to a team.

It'll be interesting to see if the Dolphins give Wilford an opportunity to redeem himself at training camp, or value the message his release will spend. I say they bring him back to training camp and have Wilford compete with the incoming rookies for playing time because you can never have enough receivers to run routes during two-a-days. Plus, the money has already been spent....

Being as Miami just took a 2.5 Mill Cap Hit after releaseing Holliday I could see us cutting Wilford who would cost 1.5 and they can take 4.o mill cap hit and get it over with. All this cutting could mean Miami is trying to become players again in FA.

Leigh Bodden, Jabari Greer, Bryant Mcfadden and Ronald Bartell come to mind.

I doubt it. We've already paid for Wilford, and we will need training camp bodies. We wouldn't cut him until after the draft at the earliest.

But doesnt cutting Vonnie result in a cap hit, thus reducing our cap room? Same goes for Wilford. So, if anything, maybe it shows that we dont see anything that we like in the FA market, so we're OK with taking a cap hit or two at this time. Just a thought.

You want a guy as camp folder whose work ethic sucks. I think he could be gone soon.

Agree, but Miami could also be making room for something. Big, you never know.

I am not the best with CaP #'s but isn't the difference between Hollidays Contract and Wilford the following:

If we cut wilford we take a $3-$4 Million hit regardless.
By Cutting Holliday we actually gained $2 Million
$4.5 Million saved, $2.5 Million hit, total $2million saved.
I think the $4.5 Million consisted of his contract, Roster Bonus, Workout Bonus or something like that.

Correct me if I am wrong, as I normally am

 Man, how can they be making room for something big when they are making moves that give them less room under the cap? We have less money today than we did yesterday.

Isnt that what a cap hit is?

I think they will try and package him with pics on draft day to either move up or down.

They've already paid him so they need to try and get something from the deal besides that pitiful handful of receptions he gave us...

I read somewhere cutting Wilford this year makes no sense cause of the structure of his contract. I will try to dig up the article. I think Holiday will be back at a lessor cap number.

Vonnie will not be back. He already declined Miami's request to take a pay cut.

And Wilford has zero trade value. He has negative value, if that is even mathematically possible.

If that information is correct then what we did seems right inline with this staff if they have no future plans for Holiday. Cut himnow and open up cap space to wheel n deal with and give him time to sign somewhere else. Wilford will be with us until we know we can afford to take the cap hit this season or long enough to make it roll to next season if that is posssible.

I have yet to hear any negative comments come out of out staff about Wilfords work ethics. In fact they had even praised how hard he works in camp. They said this around midseason if I remember right but in general have been pretty closed mouthed about what the issue with him has been that he cant break into the starting line up. It really has been a mystery why he was so ineffictive last season.

I think Miami has just started cutting guys. Holliday was First, I think Wilford and Jason Allen can both be the next to go.I have a feeling Miami is creating cap room for something big or to continue shopping with out going over the cap.
