Everybody seems curious as to why Saban didn't go after Ben. He (and others) might think he just won't be able to hold up to the NFL with disk & knee problems. Those herniated disks can be a b*tch.

INJURY REPORT

2002 -- Underwent right knee arthroscopic surgery to repair meniscus debriment in May and the grade-three sprain would prevent him from working out for eight weeks … Missed the Miami (Ohio) and The Citadel games with right knee and ankle sprains … Sat out the Cotton Bowl match vs. Texas with a lower back (L4-L5) herniated disc.

2003 -- Underwent surgery Jan. 16 to trim out his herniated disc.

2004 -- Suffered a torn left knee patella tendon in the Vanderbilt contest (10/30) and underwent surgery on Nov. 2, missing the season's final four games.

if Nick thought he was worth signing he would be a Dolphin.

He must be concerned becuase he took a risk with Crowder.

Repairing a torn Patellar tendon on a center who has to drive 330 pound nose tackles off his a*s....? Good luck on that one. Any doc who can fix that deserves a case of scotch.

I think that's not the total injury report...I remember reading one that stated a back injury.......

Back injury=End of career (effective) for an OG, OT, and, DT.

+1. Nick knows him, if nooone else. I'll trust Saban's judgement.

You think that's bad? Look at Crowder's history.

If we didn't go after Wilkerson because of his history, we sure ignored Crowder's.

INJURY REPORT

2002 -- Did not attend school, as he had surgery on both knees after his high school senior season. Crowder first underwent knee surgery as a sophomore as he had an anterior cruciate ligament transplant. After his senior year, Crowder again underwent surgery, this time on both of his knees. Shortly after his 18th birthday, on Dec. 2, 2001, he had additional knee surgery. There was another surgical procedure on the left knee in April of 2002 to fix complications from his sophomore operation. He worked diligently to get back in shape, but had to sit out the 2002 season -- not enrolling at Florida to save a year of eligibility.

2003 -- Underwent arthroscopic right knee surgery on Oct. 1, prior to the Mississippi game, and missed that contest. He returned against eventual national champion LSU 10 days after surgery to lead the linebacking unit with seven tackles.

2004 -- Bothered by a groin strain during spring drills. … Missed most of the Georgia game and the entire Vanderbilt and South Carolina contests after straining a tendon in his right foot (arch) in the first quarter of the Georgia tilt.

Difference is, Crowders seems to have been fixed. I doubt Wilkerson's can be...

The assumption that if Nick wanted him he'd be here is flawed. For all we know, the two of them had a blowup and can't stand each other. Ben might also be in Cincy because he met a girl there, has been a Bengals fan forever, or really likes Marv. All we know for sure is that he isn't here and that almost certainly means our center is already on our roster.

Did Cincy sign him? If he does go there than if healthy he has a good chance to crack the starting lineup

I'm a nurse and took care of thousands of people with back operations. Your back is never the same. That's why Bowens won't last the season. There's just too much stress on your back to play positions with constant contact. Montana came back because he wasn't getting impacted on his back with every play.

Bowens was a nagging injury not the same as Wilkerson's back injury. The back is one of the hardest things to heal. Next to the knee that's what usually knocks out most atlethes. A broken leg or a sprained calif or a hip injury aren't that big of a deal in comparison to complete muscle tears and back injuries.
