Just a thought guys. I wondered will a new OC impact the type of QB we get? Example: The Fins weren't interested in Philip Rivers because his arm strength didn't fit Linehan's system. No this is not another Rivers thread. Just wondered what impact would a new OC have on the Fins choice at QB? Thanks for your thoughts!

The way I see it, arm strength is important for every system. Some more then others, but with the speed in the NFL today you need good velocity on your ball.

I think that it will play a minor role, because nick saban wants to hire someone to run the offence the way he likes it not the way the offencive coordinator wants it. good question though.

Exactly... plus, Im sure Saban already has his eyes set on a few solutions already.

Not always. Jeff George could throw harder and farther than ANYBODY. I think the new OC will not only dictate what type but also WHO we bring in at QB

A couple of months ago I questioned grabbing a QB adaptable to Linehan's "system" because I thought he'd get a chance at an HC job, and I got absolutely lambasted for that comment. Now he's got the HC job, and we're free to have an intelligent discussion again.
If Baggett magically stays, then things will generally stay the same. Garrett is a complete wild card to me. Mularky is more running oriented, and we could probably look forward toward an efficient smart passer like Roethlesberger (might Rivers fit this bill?), rather than a gunslinger (Cutler).

It really depends on what our next move on offense is. Saban more than likely will try to stick with the same offenseive philosophy so i think we will look for a strong armed qb a typical linehan qb. I think Saban liked the type of offense linehan ran... whitch is why we ran it and hired him originally so i can't see us changing our philosophy hence changing the type of qb we look at.

If Rivers didnt have the tools to be a NFL QB...........he wouldnt have been drafted 4th!!

That arm strenght BS is crazy:shakeno:

I agree he sure is making a lot of money for someone who has no arm stength.
