I was reading an Insider chat on ESPN today, and KC Joyner (from thefootballscientist.com) said N.A. from Oakland was the #1 CB in the NFL...suprisingly enough the #2 CB he listed was our very own Will Allen...He was then asked a follow up question where he was questioned about his answer. He replied he had his doubts as well but after studying his YPA he determined that he truly is #2...

I dont know about all that, but I thought it was very interesting and thought I would share.

At least this may be a better discussion then "John beck sucks, you suck if you think he doesn't"

Mikey(Lackawanna,NY): KC, Who is the best CB in the NFL right now? Who's # 2?

KC Joyner: The best CB of any starting CB in 2007 belonged to Nnamdi Asomugha. Second on the list was Will Allen. The full list of CB YPA will be available in ESPN's Fantasy Football Guide and in Scientific Football 2008. The Guide will hit newsstands this summer and SF 2008 will be ready in early/mid-July (and is currently available for pre-order at www.thefootballscientist.com).

Majeed: Will Allen: One of the best CBs according to Dr Z!

KC Joyner: He gave me my career break and even though I doubted him at first on the Allen selection, he hit the nail on the head!

I think he's a very good corner and has only gotten better as the year progressed but he's not the second best corner in the league. Interesting though.

Agreed. He very quietly had a very good season last yr. He would have had more recognition if he palyed on a winning team. The same can be said for Vernon Carey.

Now, imagine next year when we sign Asomugha. #1 and #2 CBs! That would be awesome.

Allen is a solid corner, I just wished he would get more picks.

I think our corners are solid, not great or game changers though. But by improving our defensive line and putting more pressure on the quarterbacks, hopefully it result in more INTS.

Allen covers well. If he could just catch the ball he would be talked about a lot more.

He was probably our best defensive player last season.

Im very content with Allen as our #1 CB.

Im also very content with Jason Allen as our FS.

SS and our #2 CB scare me however.

I think will Allen is very good but our number two corner will probably kill us this year.

A very overlooked point. If we get more pressure on the QB this year it should def lead to more INT's. Lets no forget just about our entire secondary was hurt last season too.

he's a good corner but no way is he the 2nd best corner in the NFL....I'd say he maybe top 15?

Ozzy rules!!

Thats pretty accurate. I wouldnt go as far as to say he is #2 but Will Allen is one of the best cover corners in the league and is absolutely deadly off the corner blitz.. Although he is one of the best cover corners in the league he is horrible at intercepting the ball. BUt if you notice he does a good job of putting himself in place to make INT's, he just drops them. If he caught every would be INT that he dropped he would most definately be a pro bowl player.

I wouldnt say there is a clear cut #1 or #2.. Nnamdi, Hall, Trufant, Cromartie.. You could easily make the case for any one of them to be a #1 or #2

I'm just glad to see that hip problem everyone was worried about when he was coming out of school hasn't turned out to be true so far. ALthough I think Nick Saban is the devil, he was a pretty good evaluator of college talent, especially from the SEC. Crowder, Daniels, Allen......
