Will any team be up for trading for Joey Porter in the off-season??

Porter has played very well espeically getting to the Qb but not sure how bad team would want him. May be worth a 3rd to some team or if he really has a great year maybe a 2nd. I would trade him for a second with no problem although not sure who can take his place right now.

It depends on how much money he is going to cost. Does anyone know what the cap hit would be and what his base salary would be for the team trading for him?

Why are we trading our best defensive player? He probably has another few years left in him, and with him being arguably one of the best outside linebackers in the game, you have to keep him to help ease the rebuilding mode.

The difference between keeping him over guys like Zach Thomas and Jason Taylor is age and commitment to the game. Thomas is 35 years old and lets face it, one big hit from being totally out of the game. Jason Taylor is 34 and his mind is in Hollywood, not in the NFL. You have to take a the trade of a 2nd and 6th round pick for a guy likely playing his last NFL season.

Joey Porter does have injury problems, and some questioned whether his career was over in the summer. However, he has proven so far that he is healthy and is still very committed to giving it his all. At 31 years old, he still could have another 2-3 years of top talent left. You do not trade a guy who is on pace for 23 sacks for a 3rd round pick. Sometimes there are some older veterans that you are better off keeping during a rebuilding process then trading them away.

I wouldn't even give Joey Porter up if a team offered a 2nd round pick. You have to keep him in Miami.

why would you wanna let Porter go? he's leading the league in sacks,or if he's not,he's number 2,regardless,he'll be a double digit sack guy by the time the season ends...so again, why would you wanna let him go?

I meant I would trade him for a second. He definately is getting to the qb this year but I would rather have a longterm option and could do without his yearly incident.

What was his incident this year? I think other than being a big mouth, he has stayed out of legal trouble since his Vegas incident in March of 2007.

I can fully understand where you are coming from about trading him. A second round pick would go a long way to giving us a long term player. However, this is a guy who could post double digit sacks for the next 2 or 3 seasons. I am sure Parcells would like to make a playoff push in 09' and then be serious title contenders in 2010. Joey Porter could be a big part of that run and I think he is the type of franchise player you have to hang onto.

We may be rebuilding, but we can't trade away every player that hits 30 years old. If we did, we would never improve. There is a difference of trading away an inconsistent player(Chambers) or guy playing in his last year(Taylor) then there is for trading away an elite NFL player with a few years still left in the tank(Porter).

Bad teams trade away good players. Look at the Lions, they traded away Roy Williams. Good teams hold onto good players. That is why you don't see franchises like the Colts trading away Manning or the Patriots trading away Brady. If we want to get out of the cellar and become an elite team, we have to keep players that are good for us. That is why I believe the ideas of trading away Ronnie or Porter will hurt us more than help us. People see Ronnie dominate, and they instantly want to trade him for picks. What the front office should be doing is laying out the ground work of a long term extension for Ronnie.

Trade this guy bench that guy just becasue they are not the new sexy model in town. Come on lets see we tried that method last year and it sure did not work gutted the the team and the fans all screamed. OK this is how it works once you get the "new sexy model drafted and know it runs better than the old clunker that has gotten you down the road the past few years is the "time" to trade that old clunker in". If you trade the clunker in before you buy that new model and it ends up in the shop then you are stuck thumbing down the road. Guys this is not about football just common sense. Just think we might be 4 / 1 if we still had Jason Taylor today with Joey Porter now playing at a Pro Bowl level. Just name who else we have as a line backer today that can replace Porter? NO ONE. Don't tell me that can look in some crystal ball and pick one in the draft either because "if" you can I know where you can get a great job better than what you have now. AWW.

sometimes i think some of you like finishing last. with the way you always wanna trade away a player when they produce

I think he is probably untradeable at this point. He is going to have about $12million owed on the $20mill that he was given when he signed. Even with all of the CAP space that we have next year I dont know that we could take that kind of hit. Besides we would have no pass rush without him. Joey stays through next year at least and we try to bring in a young player to play behind him that we can develop.

Let's ask Itiswhatitis. I'm sure we know his answer....Picks,Picks,Picks!!!!! He wanted to trade him before the deadline. Where the hell is he?

So we can have a billion threads on why we shouldn't have traded him?

Great question!

Along those lines what could we get for Henne? I bet we could get at least a high third.

The guy is 1/2 sack out of the league lead 8.5 sacks. Give me a break.
